Title:             Lead Teacher (Floater)  

Location:     WHEDco Early Childhood Discover Center (ECDC)/Head Start  

Reports to:  Center Director/ Education Director/Lead Teacher

Job Summary:  

The Teacher Floater plays a vital role in providing support to classrooms during staff absences, offering additional assistance when needed, covering lead teacher planning periods, and collaborating closely with the Lead Teacher, Education Director and Center Director to achieve yearly goals. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with the Education Director each morning to plan and organize daily tasks. 
  • Ensure possession of weekly lesson plans for each classroom at the beginning of each week. 
  • When substituting for a lead teacher, adhere to the provided lesson plan. 
  • Familiarize oneself with Teaching Strategies Gold (TSG) children’s assessment platform. 
  • Stay updated on the latest research and best practices in early childhood education. 
  • Assist the Education Director in maintaining a safe and secure environment for children, including checking classroom setup, playground safety, and classroom maintenance lists daily. 
  • Actively participate in staff development sessions and all Center meetings. 
  • Foster collaboration with the Center's Secretary and Family Services Team. 
  • Engage in home visits in coordination with instructional teams, utilizing public transportation when necessary. 
  • Possess the ability to lift and carry up to 30lbs. 

Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred, with New York certification. 
  • Alternatively, possess a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development with preschool teaching experience and working towards obtaining New York certification. 
  • Minimum of 90 completed credits in Early Childhood Education, eligible to be on a study plan. 
  • Satisfactory completion of medical examinations as well as other required pre-employment screenings. 
  • Must be able to carry and lift up to 30 pounds as well as the ability to conduct home visits using public transportation which involves climbing stairs.  
  • Previous work experience in low-income communities preferred. 

 

Excellent benefits and competitive salary ($55,000 - $74,000) based on education and experience. After 60 days of employment, Center Staff working 15 hours or more per week are represented by Local 95, DC 37, AFSCME, and are covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
