 The development manager will lead development, grants, sponsorships, and donation duties. Position is exempt at a minimum of 40 hours weekly, which include, but aren’t limited to, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required for special events and outreach. Employment is with the Historical Society of Central Florida.

Reports to: Executive director

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet quarterly and annual revenue goals
  • Create and implement annual development strategies and donor-cultivation plans
  • Conduct ongoing donor and sponsor prospect research
  • Spearhead the solicitation of donations and sponsorships for the museum, its programming, and exhibitions; communicates with constituents through timely and engaging direct mail, digital, phone call, or email messages
  • Constituent and database management including updates, additions, mailing lists, data management and reporting, gift processing, and donor acknowledgements, etc.
  • Assist with cultivating and maintaining relationships with community organizations, federal, regional, state, and other external agencies, as well as individual donors and corporate sponsors throughout Central Florida and beyond
  • Compose grant proposals and manages grant-funded projects, including reporting and budgets with assistance from internal departments
  • Coordinate and lead efforts on various development campaigns including United Arts, Giving Tuesday, year end, etc.
  • Develop, coordinate, and participate in events as they pertain to development
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings on exhibitions, activities, programs, procedures, and policies
  • Demonstrate knowledge and good judgment in matters of policy, procedure, communication, and confidentiality
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent combined education and work history, preferably in a museum or nonprofit setting
  • Minimum of three years of experience in development, fundraising, grant writing, or relevant experience; familiarity with Blackbaud Altru a plus
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices of nonprofit fundraising operations, gift entry and administration, donor stewardship, database administration, records management, and IRS regulations regarding charitable giving
  • Ability to structure work to achieve deadlines and reach fundraising goals
  • Interact in a welcoming manner, provide excellent customer service to all museum constituents and donors
  • Excellent organizational skills, including prioritizing and managing multiple tasks with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines, problem solving, and using logic and analysis to troubleshoot problems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders; prepare and deliver concise, understandable, and effective grant and donor solicitations and reports
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends
  • Valid drivers license and ability to provide own transportation

The above description and qualifications are not all-inclusive and represent a majority of the key responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned in the course of activities as required to fulfill the directives of the museum and strategic plan. Work environment is primarily in the museum with some outdoor activity. Some moderate lifting.
