Position Summary

The Conservation Policy Associate will manage the development of transformational policy solutions that address key challenges and benefit people and nature in pursuing a vision of thriving together in the face of a changing climate. A member of The Nature Conservancy’s Conservation team in Washington, the Conservation Policy Associate serves as a liaison with Government Relations staff and other TNC teams to develop policy proposals. The position is based in one of TNC’s Conservation teams and coordinates regularly with Government Relations staff and other TNC teams, and potentially external partners, such as agency, tribal and elected officials’ staff.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

·       Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related work experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

·       Experience researching information from divergent sources and compiling it into a cohesive written structure.

·       Experience working in a team environment on projects with deadlines and clear deliverables.

·       Experience completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).

·       Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material

·       Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, web browsers, etc.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·       Ability to act in accordance with the Washington equity statement; be respectful of differences of identity and/or beliefs, and successfully work across those differences to meet work objectives. 

·       Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experiences are appreciated.

·       Experience, coursework, or other training in public policy, government relations, law, business, or sustainability. Direct experience working with government agencies or elected officials and staff appreciated.

·       Knowledge of current trends and practices in policy and politics.

·       Experience presenting to and communicating with internal and external audiences.

·       Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, keeping teams and items on-task, on-time, and on-budget

·       Experience facilitating informational sessions, increasing internal knowledge and capacity, and identifying key stakeholders. 

·       Self-starting, independent worker who can thrive in a decentralized organization with minimal oversight.

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·       Experience working with partners or government agencies.
