The TEAK Fellowship is a ten-year enrichment program that offers New York City students from under-resourced communities intensive after school and summer academic classes, transformational cultural experiences, secondary school, and college guidance, a vibrant internship program, and a robust support system. TEAK students earn admission/financial aid at our Nation’s most prestigious academic institutions and graduate from them determined to make an impact on communities in need of their contributions and leadership.  

TEAK is seeking a driven, collaborative, and highly organized individual with a passion for TEAK’s mission to serve as the Director of Development. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Help support with solicitation of individual donors, foundations, and corporate support, and producing special events
  • Manage foundation grants including submission, reporting, and identifying new opportunities
  • Facilitate fundraising efforts by TEAK’s Next Generation Board and Alumni fundraising
  • Plan and execute various fundraising & cultivation events throughout the year, including one major benefit for 400+ partners and the Next Gen Board event for 250 young New York professionals
  • Increase the visibility of the TEAK brand through communications strategies including print and digital publications, the website, social media, and PR
  • Design evaluation strategies and collect program data
  • Support Executive Director & Development Committee in preparation of Board materials

Fundraising:

  • Manage internal grants and funding calendars and schedules to ensure timely submission of proposals, renewals, and reports to foundations, government agencies, and corporate partners
  • Track progress and report quarterly on progress toward fundraising goals. Coordinate with the Finance team to ensure reconciliation of development and accounting records. Requires Excel skills and attention to detail in financial reporting.
  • Process new gifts, work with the Deputy Director of External Relations to assign contributions to proper funding streams
  • Create weekly and monthly reconciliation reports for the finance department. 
  • Coordinate, personalize, and package all donor mailings (including acknowledgment letters and at least two annual appeals) by retrieving donor information, merging letters, and working with the Deputy Director of External Relations and other staff to ensure accuracy, timeliness, high quality, and the most compelling and engaging storytelling. 
  • Compile and distribute donor reports for the Deputy Director of External Relations and other staff as needed.

Communications:

  • Assist in creating and implementing annual development/communications plan, including identification, solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship strategies. 
  • Assist in creating an annual report and update (or supervise update of) newsletter/social media/website, telling the story of our mission and metrics. Oversee standards for communications materials.
  • Assist with TEAK’s brand, ensuring all internal and external marketing materials are branded correctly
  • Assist in creating and Managing event invitations for program and fundraising
  • Manage Mailchimp account
  • Assist in creating marketing materials for social media and website
  • Assist in creating videos for social media and website
  • Assist in content creation for social media and website 
  • Manage website through WordPress/Pressable

Administrative Support and Events: 

  • Complete all support functions of the department as assigned by the Deputy Director; including but not limited to drafting letters and correspondence, completing internal and external donor paperwork, and providing timely information to the board when their contacts make a gift. 
  • Work and manage printing vendors to ensure outreach materials are up to date, appeal letters are on time and accurate, and that department has enough in stock materials at all times. 
  • Support development committee and department meetings by sending timely reminders, tracking attendance, and attending and taking minutes. 
  • Ensure the development folder on shared drive is organized and up-to-date, and that documents are named in a structured and logical way. 
  • Support logistics, registration, invitations, communications, and preparations for the Gala, fundraising events, cultivation events, Open Houses, and community events.

Data Systems, Processes, and Team Administration:

  • Maintain donor database (Salesforce), including data entry, creating new records, entering revisions and updates, and adding notes and actions
  • Assist in the maintenance of all team files, systems, and processes, including taking ownership of certain existing systems and processes, as well as partnering to conceptualize, build, and maintain new systems and processes, where identified and needed
  • Schedule, coordinate and participate in external and internal meetings as requested
  • Provide additional support to Strategic Advancement and organizational projects
  • Manage Salesforce as Administrator, including user maintenance, staff training, data entry, and assisting with custom reports as needed by staff, executive team, and board
  • Relationship Management with Salesforce consultant (as needed), provide guidance on workflow and priorities. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree; advanced degree in relevant field preferred
  • 7-10 years of professional experience in non-profit development with a proven record of success in meeting annual fundraising goals
  • Demonstrated success as an effective communicator in written and verbal form, including exceptional interpersonal, networking, and presentation skills
  • Experience overseeing a fundraising database
  • Experience with non-profit budgeting and finances
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully directing others
  • Comfortable in a team-oriented environment with open communication and constructive feedback
  • The ability to multi-task with high-volume workloads
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • A strong eye for design
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships with various stakeholders including students, Alumni, staff, Board, and program partners  
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workplace
  • Proficiency in Salesforce
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational and project management skills
  • A strategic and curious thinker who approaches challenges open-mindedly, creatively, and with thoughtful solutions
  • Maturity, professionalism, integrity, and respect for confidential information
