    These images tell the story of a moment, but, more importantly, they make a distant or abstract issue immediate and concrete. They focus public attention on key issues, give momentum to social movements, and become a rallying call and powerful tool for policy change.

    CatchLight is a visual-first media organization that leverages the power of visual storytelling to inform, connect, and transform communities. We are looking for someone who shares our passion for photojournalism, photography, and visual storytelling to join our team.

    CatchLight seeks a Senior Manager of Events who will be responsible for managing CatchLight’s events from the initial planning stages, through the execution, and post-event analysis. This is a full-time employee position with benefits. It is a hybrid role, based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    CatchLight’s events gather together journalists, photographers, art collectors, innovators in visuals and tech, and visual enthusiasts for conversation, connection, and inspiration. The events include public programs (up to 1000 people) as well as smaller private events (20-30 people):

    • Visual Storytelling Summit, Benefit and Retreat: Occurring each spring in San Francisco, this weekend of events engages CatchLight stakeholders in a range of public and private gatherings.
    • Night of Photojournalism: Public event celebrating the power of visual journalism, occurring annually in Paris in early November, and - new this year - expanding to a four stop tour in cities across the US.
    • Focal Point conversations: Evening gatherings occurring 2-3 times annually, highlighting the work of a single photographer or leader in the field. Most often held in the San Francisco Bay Area.

    This position reports to the VP of Development and Public Programs.

    The Senior Manager of Events’ main duties include:

    • Event planning: Developing a comprehensive event plan, including timelines, schedules, and detailed budgets. Keep accurate records in Asana and Salesforce CRM and communicate progress with other staff.
    • Venue selection: Researching and securing suitable event venues, negotiating contracts, and coordinating site visits.
    • Vendor management: Identifying and contracting with vendors such as caterers, entertainment providers, and AV teams.
    • Talent Management: Supporting guest speakers and curators, collecting assets, scheduling prep calls, rehearsals, and
    • Logistics coordination: Managing all logistical aspects including ticketing, transportation, accommodation, permits, insurance, security, and event setup.
    • Marketing and promotion: Working with the publicist and communications team in creating press releases and developing marketing strategies to promote the event and drive attendance. Ensuring event sponsors and partners are credited appropriately.
    • Budget management: Tracking event expenses against the budget and making necessary adjustments.
    • On-site management: Overseeing the event on the day, being the point person for contracted event staff, addressing any issues that arise, and ensuring everything runs smoothly.
    • Post-event analysis: Evaluating the event's success, gathering feedback from attendees, and identifying areas for improvement.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • At least 3 years of prior experience planning and managing events.
    • Highly organized: Maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, and deadlines simultaneously.
    • Problem-solving abilities: Quick thinking, cool head, and adaptability to handle unexpected situations on event day.
    • Project management skills: Experience in planning and executing complex projects within budget and time constraints. Proficiency and experience with Asana and Salesforce CMS.
    • Superior verbal and written skills: Ability to effectively communicate with the public, vendors, staff, and stakeholders.
    • Negotiation skills: Ability to negotiate contracts with vendors and secure favorable terms.
    • Self starter; ability to work independently, take initiative and prioritize tasks.
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a small team.
    • Collaborative and cooperative work ethic.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and “can do” attitude.

    PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    • Ability to communicate via phone, text, zoom, email and other software
    • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time
    • CatchLight has a hybrid work environment with shared workspace, must be willing to travel to the San Francisco office every Thursday, or as necessary.
    • Must be willing to travel to meet in-person as necessary. Mileage and direct expenses will be reimbursed.
    • Willing to travel nationally and internationally, as necessary.

    This position is exempt, full-time, regular with full benefits. Benefits include:
