Sefaria is a non-profit organization dedicated to building the future of Torah in an open and participatory way. We are assembling a free, digital library of Jewish texts and translations and developing digital tools, educational resources, and engagement opportunities that enable people to deepen their study. Sefaria's team of more than 20 full-time staff is remote, with employees based in several US cities and in Israel.
Sefaria was founded just eight years ago and has since become a mainstay of Jewish learning and education with over 4 million users annually. As part of our strategic plan for 2022 and beyond, we are focused on building a stronger base of financial support to ensure long-term sustainability. Already, Sefaria has more than 8,000 annual donors and we are constantly working to develop new ways to build relationships with them, craft creative messages and campaigns, write compelling proposals and reports, and improve internal systems. Reporting to the Development Manager, the individual in this role will help Sefaria expand its efforts at all levels of the fundraising enterprise (foundations, small-dollar donors, and major donors) to support Sefaria’s growing operations ($4M+ annual budget). Today, the development team is made up of the Chief Executive Officer, Chief of Staff, Chief Operating Officer, Development Manager, as well as the Finance and Operations Manager.
We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to support user-based fundraising campaigns, institutional giving, and development operations. More specifically, we are looking for a skilled writer who will synthesize information from across the organization and craft clear and concise stories to showcase Sefaria’s work and impact. The Associate will take the lead on drafting proposals, reports, and campaign material (e.g., email solicitations, in-product fundraising messages) and editing with the team. The role will also encompass prospect research, grant processing and tracking, data gathering, and project management work related to fundraising campaigns, management of special gifts (e.g. sponsorships), and writing and sending acknowledgements to major donors.
In addition to the responsibilities further outlined below, this role will provide someone with ample opportunity to learn and grow on the job, stretch their creative muscles, connect with donors, and be part of a meaningful mission. Sefaria operates like a start-up, and while our team is growing, everyone still wears many hats. The right person for the job will appreciate flexing different muscles on a daily basis and engaging in tasks big and small to provide Sefaria with a stable foundation through which to grow out of. The role is for someone who is a skilled writer, can juggle multiple tasks, be detail oriented (as well as see the big picture), and has an appreciation for and knowledge of the work Sefaria does and the texts in its library.
