Advocacy & Outreach Specialist

The Center for Medicare Advocacy (the Center), has an immediate opening for an Advocacy & Outreach Specialist in its Connecticut office. The Advocacy & Outreach Specialist will be a member of a team that leads the organization’s direct client services and referrals.

The Center is a private, non-profit law organization that provides legal assistance and education to help older people and people with disabilities gain access to comprehensive Medicare, health equity, and quality health care. The Center focuses on the needs of people with chronic conditions and those in need of on-going care. The organization’s work includes individual advocacy, education, legislative analysis, and litigation of importance to Medicare beneficiaries nationwide. Headquartered in Connecticut and Washington, DC, the Center also has attorneys in CA, MA and NJ.

The Advocacy & Outreach Specialist will provide timely, accurate information and assistance on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries, primarily from Connecticut, about Medicare and related issues and programs. In addition, the Advocacy & Outreach Specialist may prepare materials and present at trainings, seminars, or events for other professionals and stakeholders.

A college degree is required; experience with direct client advocacy, fluency in Spanish, and knowledge of Medicare are preferred. The Advocacy & Outreach Specialist must also have excellent oral, written, research and organizational skills; a strong desire to help people; a natural curiosity to learn and educate others; a collaborative community spirit; and a passion for social justice. The Center for Medicare Advocacy’s Connecticut office is located in Mansfield − 15 minutes from the University of Connecticut, 40 minutes from Hartford, 1½ hours from Boston and 2½ hours from New York City. Some remote work is an option.
