Position Title:                     Director of Digital Fundraising

Reports to:                           Senior Director for Philanthropy

Location:                              Washington, DC

Status:                                    Full-time/Exempt

Expected Start Date:         ASAP

As an integral member of the fundraising team, the Director of Digital Fundraising will develop a comprehensive strategy to increase revenue through online channels, direct mail appeals, and oversee related database administration.  The director  will work with the fundraising and communications teams, as well as outside vendors and consultants, to execute strategies that drive fundraising and engagement while enhancing user experience. The director will also stay abreast of digital fundraising trends and tools, as well as key performance indicators throughout the industry.

This position manages the digital fundraising team including the Digital Fundraising Coordinator and the Development Assistant.

Duties & Responsibilities

Online Fundraising

Lead strategy and execution of Anera’s digital fundraising campaigns, to include email appeals and engagement, Short Message Service (SMS), and social media fundraising messaging

Responsible for managing donor and prospect list size and contributing to revenue growth goals and set by the overall fundraising team plan. Create multi-channel communications for donors to ensure that interactions with Anera are of the highest quality.

Develop list segmentation and messaging for testing strategies. Work with Digital Fundraising Coordinator and Annual Giving Manager on messaging and engagement to drive sustainer and mid-level growth.

Develop annual income and expense budgets for digital fundraising. Create strategies and develop customized donor-centric approaches that achieve high conversion, retention and acquisition to move supporters through the donor journey

Ensure Anera charity rating profiles are complete and up-to-date Direct Mail Fundraising.

Manage and execute all details of Anera’s direct mail appeals (about 6 per year), including writing, segmenting, creating the direct response plan in EveryAction, running mailing lists, working with communications on layout and package design, and working with the printing vendor to review proofs

Technology

Oversee management, development and integration of EveryAction. Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software. Manage relationship with EveryAction account manager

Work with fundraising staff to ensure EveryAction is being used effectively and efficiently for all fundraising needs

Work with Development Database Assistant to ensure accurate data entry

Manage relations with key vendors for online fundraising and engagement and oversee the use of tools used Collaboration with Communications Team

Collaborate with the communications team to create integrated messaging strategies for social media and anera.org

Jointly manage the relationship with the printing vendor for print appeals, newsletters and other cultivation/stewardship materials

Jointly manage the relationship with third party internet marketing agency, WebFX, to maintain website Search Engine Optimization (SEO), Google Analytics reporting, Google Ad Grant, Pay Per Click (PPC) and retargeting ads

Implement website changes as they relate to fundraising needs (campaign popups, online donation forms, fundraising landing pages, donate buttons on blog posts, landing pages, etc.)

Collaborate with the communications team on website messaging to ensure Anera’s mission and vision are clearly communicated, and drive conversions

Management and Supervision Responsibilities

Develop fundraising team plans/goals/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) based on nonprofit industry standards and internal giving trends

Ensure Anera remains current on best practices of digital fundraising by attending relevant conferences, workshops and webinars

Hire consultants, vendors or agencies on an as-needed basis. Negotiate contracts and manage all aspects of third party relationships.

Assist with development and management of fundraising team campaigns, events and communications calendar. Oversee a team of two staff members, Digital Fundraising Coordinator and Development Database Assistant. Develop staff by identifying and encouraging professional development opportunities appropriate to role. Provide staff with consistent performance feedback and act as mentor

Create a respectful and inclusive work environment for team, address any concerns, and encourage staff to raise concerns and to provide feedback

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 5+ years experience in online fundraising and engagement management

Experience and strong understanding of EveryAction or related Electronic Customer Relationship Management (eCRM) software

Demonstrated understanding of best practices related to digital fundraising, tools, processes and techniques for fundraising, donor development, list building, social media messaging, email marketing

Experience with Photoshop or other Adobe tools and has a strong eyefor layout design and details

Familiarity with Google Analytics, Google Ad Grant/Pay Per Click (PPC), and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Staff management experience

Proven ability to work effectively across departments and has strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to be resourceful and learn on the go

Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with different audiences

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with WordPress Content Management System (CMS)

Experience with HTML/Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)

Knowledge of Middle East preferred

Travel:

This role requires approximately 2% international travel
