Position Title: LA Worker Center Network Director

Position Type: Full-time, exempt. At least half of the time will be in person.

Location: Los Angeles

Supervision: This position will be placed at the Warehouse Worker Resource Center and reports to the executive director of the WWRC. 

Salary: $70-75,000

Benefits: Full employee and family healthcare, 15 paid holidays, 10 days paid vacation, 10 days paid sick leave in first year.

Start Date: January 5, 2022 (flexible)

The Los Angeles Worker Center Network organizes with Black, immigrant, and refugee workers and workers of color across key low-wage industries in the LA region so that all workers experience worker power, solidarity, visibility, and healthy lives.  The LAWCN’s mission is to support workers by building power and organizing capacity of worker centers to ensure employers and policymakers implement the demands of the communities we organize.  The LA Worker Center Network includes the CLEAN Carwash Worker Center, the Garment Worker Center, KIWA, the LA Black Worker Center, Restaurant Opportunities Center-LA, Pilipino Workers Center, and Warehouse Workers Resource Center. The UCLA Labor Center provides support and is a non-voting member.


The LAWCN seeks a committed and effective Director to lead Los Angeles worker centers in the advancement of the LAWCN’s strategic priorities, and to lead us to a new level of collective impact and sustainability.


Required qualifications

  • At least two full years’ experience as a program, campaign, or department lead, manager, or director within a social justice organization.
  • Experience managing a coalition.
  • Commitment to building the labor movement and to racial, gender, and economic justice. 
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team with joint decision-making.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet goals.
  • Ability to train and support others.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Ability to work flexible hours when needed, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends. 
  • Experience in jointly planning and implementing strategic organizing and/or policy campaigns, even if not at the director level.
  • Some fundraising experience.
  • Valid CA driver license and access to a working, insured car.


Desired qualifications

  • Experience working directly with black and/or immigrant workers as an organizer or trainer.
  • Previous worker center or union experience.
  • Spanish fluency.
  • Program or campaign leadership experience.
  • Policy or government relations experience.
  • Supervision experience.


Duties

  • Lead and manage the LA Worker Center Network to advance its strategic priorities in worker center capacity-building and campaigns.
  • Manage the LAWCN calendar and lead planning for LAWCN events, such as worker asambleas and trainings.
  • Along with the leads of LAWCN organizations, represent LAWCN externally.
  • Advance relationships between LAWCN organizations and key allies, agencies, officials, and media.
  • Play a key role in  fundraising for LAWCN, in close partnership with the worker centers.
  • Plan, lead, and facilitate LAWCN meetings and ensure notes are accurate and accessible. 
  • Ensure timely, effective coordination and communication among LAWCN organizations.
  • Oversee LAWCN budget and the hiring and management of consultants.
  • In 2022, we will build externally but our main focus will be on internal capacity-building. Beyond 2022, you will likely be co-planning and leading LAWCN campaigns.
  • We anticipate hiring additional staff over the next two years, whom you would supervise.
