Part-Time Temporary Contract and Relief Positions Available
Peer Support Workers Consumption and Treatment Service (CTS)
Hamilton Urban Core is a thriving inner city health centre and a leader in the provision of high-quality primary health services and health promotion programs.
Peer Support Workers will provide support and resources to individuals accessing the CTS and will work with other members of the CTS team to safely serve clients using harm reduction approaches. Peer Support Workers work with individuals who use drugs to strengthen their capacity to improve their own health and well-being, and to help people connect to the services and resources they need when they need them. Peer Support Workers are members of the person-centered, inter-professional, team of health providers at Hamilton Urban Core who will:
1. Provide harm reduction supplies and information
2. Provide support for onsite injections and overdose as needed and as appropriate
3. Greet clients, reinforce site protocols, monitor area outside of the site as needed
4. Act as a resource to, and advocate for, individuals accessing the CTS
5. Maintain accurate data and information
6. Participate in evaluation processes related to the CTS and people accessing the services.
7. Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, and culturally safe framework
8. Work as an active member of the CTS Team
The successful candidate will have:
• Demonstrated experience working with people who use drugs and people who are vulnerable, poor and/or homeless
• Past lived experience
• Relevant education
• Understanding of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and culturally safety
• Working knowledge of a wide variety of community resources especially those related to drug use, homelessness, and mental health issues
• Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team
• Knowledge and understanding of community health centres
• Flexible, able to work evenings and/or weekends as required
For the on-call relief position. Relief coverage is needed for weekday and weekend shifts morning and afternoon. Applicants for both positions must be available for 5 day paid training and onboarding. This is not a remote position.
