    The American Association of University Women (AAUW), a gender equity advocacy organization, is one of the nation’s leading voices promoting equity and education for women and girls and empowering them to reach their highest potential. The Policy & Member Advocacy team works to advance policy on gender equity in education, women’s economic security, and civil and reproductive rights.

    Summary Description: AAUW’s Fellowships and Grants (F&G) team seeks temporary application reviewers (AR) to review fellowships and grants applications for the 2025-2026 cycle. ARs play a critical role in upholding AAUW’s values of equity and advancing the organization’s goals of promoting equal opportunities in education for women by judiciously verifying fellowship and grant applicants eligibility for AAUW’s fellowship and grant programs, prioritizing those that meet AAUW’s preferred criteria, and ensuring only the highest quality applicants are referred to AAUW’s review panels for final consideration. ARs will conduct careful and holistic evaluations of applications, including academic records, essays, standardized test scores (if applicable), project proposals, budgets and other supporting documents.

    Please note this role is temporary and is projected to run for 2 to 3 weeks from late November to mid-December. The role will not be extended and is not benefits eligible.

    Essential Duties:

    • Screen and evaluate F&G applications against program eligibility criteria for one or more programs; assess the quality of applications, and make recommendations to the F&G team for all applications in an assigned caseload;
    • Reference and use resources such as an online CRM system, MS Excel, and an application review guide to support application assessment
    • Recommend applicants to move forward in the AAUW process for consideration by review panels, providing well-reasoned justifications and notes as appropriate
    • Attend required training;
    • Follow quality assurance practices to accurately complete tasks on the designated schedule;
    • Other application review-related duties as assigned.

    Expected Deliverables:

    • Completed assessment of assigned applications within a prescribed deadline;
    • Completed notes in the application review document;
    • Written progress updates.
    • Minimum Qualifications:
    • A degree holder is preferred;
    • At least 2 years of professional experience in reviewing applications for higher education, scholarships or grantmaking organizations;
    • Proficiency with computers, working online, data entry, and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) is required; ability to learn new CRM system;
    • Strong attention to detail;
    • Strong time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills;
    • Ability to work independently, exercise considerable discretion and judgement, and require minimal supervision;
    • An ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
    • Ability to keep files (and the information they contain) confidential;
    • A strong commitment to advancing education and equity for women
    • Authorized to work in the U.S.

    Compensation and Location:

    The hourly rate for this position is $18.00 to $25.00 per hour. The length of service for ARs is projected to run for 2 to 3 weeks from late November to mid-December and reviewers are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week. This is a hybrid role, requiring presence in AAUW’s office 1-2 days per week. ARs must attend training in November (dates TBD) and more training may be conducted as needed beyond the initial training session. Reviewers are also expected to maintain daily communication with their supervisor and/or the professional staff member to whom they have been assigned. Review staff must reveal any conflicts of interest (real or apparent) before conducting a review and have a duty to maintain strict confidentiality in their work. This position is not benefits eligible, and will not be extended.
