Nuevo Camino program is dedicated to providing 38 unaccompanied minors, ages 5-12, with a supportive, nurturing environment through transitional foster homes, daily education Monday - Friday, and supportive wrap-around services in the East Brooklyn section of New York City. Our program is rooted in ensuring that service delivery is trauma-informed, culturally appropriate, and tailored to the needs of each child while maintaining all program requirements of ORR. Reporting to the Program Administrator, the Director of Education is responsible for overseeing the Educational program to ensure compliance with all ORR policies as well as in accordance with the NYS State Education guidelines.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Directly supervises 4 teachers, 4 teacher aides, and 1 recreational specialist, by motivating, providing support, and engaging them in a process that requires team process to solve problems effectively, address their teams positively and proactively, and reach program expectations and goals.
- Ensure that the program is being run in accordance with all regulations as outlined by ORR and in a manner that is consistent with HSVS’s mission and values.
- Monitor all classroom operations for safety, and appropriate provision of the educational curriculum.
- Oversees the functioning and operations of the Educational Program.
- Access necessary resources, transportation, monies, and equipment as required to implement program delivery.
- In conjunction with Human Resources and the Management Team, assist in the selection, interview, and hiring of staff in the program.
- Assist in the provision of program-specific training and orientation for new employees.
- Monitor the progress of staff through performance evaluations. Assist staff in developing improvement plans and ensuring training compliance.
- Hold weekly meetings with the educational team, to implement best practices, ensure consistent compliance with ORR and organizational standards, and review and update the educational curriculum according to the needs and length of stay of the children in the program.
- Track and monitor Educational data used as part of the program Performance Indicators of Success and for the implementation of best practices.
- In addition to the responsibilities below, performs all other duties as assigned.

- Serves as a role model for program participants. Abides by dress code. Always conduct yourself in a professional manner.
- Remains sensitive and responsive to cultural differences between program participants and staff.
- Participates in in-service training and on-site workshops as required for professional growth and development. Attends external training workshops at the direction of management.
- Represents the organization both within and outside of the work environment in a manner that promotes the mission, vision, and values of the agency. Personally, adhere to organizational mission, vision, and values, in addition to all other agency policies and procedures.
