Finance Director / Controller at Non Profit

The role of Finance Director / Controller is responsible for the timeliness, accuracy and integrity of the financial reports, audit and systems of Temple Sholom. Responsibilities also include analysis and reliability of the operating procedures for all programs and financial systems to ensure an appropriate level of internal control over financial reporting and the safe guarding of assets. In addition, this position is responsible for managing and assisting in Human Resources related activities. To execute these responsibilities, the individual must communicate effectively with all levels of staff within the organization, Board members, vendors, outside agencies and membership. Critical to the success of this individual will be the qualities of initiative and follow through, the ability to research all aspects of the problem and to recommend, and after approval, to implement and verify solutions.

More specific duties include, but are not limited to:

• Production and utilization of monthly operating reports.
• Assessment and improvement of internal controls.
• Maintain computer systems.
• Drive and manage accounts receivables.
• Daily recording of cash activity into Financial Edge and Shulcloud as needed to support the Bookkeeper.
• Oversee and support processing of accounts payable.
• Annual issuance of 1099 reporting, including maintaining current knowledge of changes in reporting requirements.
• Record fixed assets additions as necessary and depreciation expense annually.
• Manage payroll processing.
• Create and maintain secure, accurate and complete employee files.
• Benefits management
• Manage year end close and audit.
• Supervise, collaborate and mentor Bookkeeper

Skills and Qualifications:

• Five years relevant management, accounting, audit and systems experience.
• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance. Masters degree or CPA preferred.
• Working knowledge of non-profit and fund accounting.
• Proficiency in Excel, Outlook and computerized accounting systems.
• Knowledge of Financial Edge (Blackbaud) and ShulCloud a plus.
• Excellent communication/strong interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, ability to work independently, start a project and manage to completion.
• Demonstrated problem solving.
• Ability to multi-task.
• Not-for-Profit accounting experience a plus
