Her Justice is a nonprofit organization that stands with women living in poverty in New York City by recruiting and mentoring volunteer lawyers to provide free legal help to address individual and systemic legal barriers. Her Justice is looking to add a self-motivated individual to our team who will further our organization’s goals of linking low-income women with volunteer lawyers in the areas of family, matrimonial, and immigration law, and advancing policy reforms in the civil justice system.  Her Justice is seeking a Policy Program Assistant who is committed to working with the Department of Law and Policy to support the programmatic and policy goals of the organization by engaging in program data reporting and visualization and providing other administrative support, including for grant and law firm relationship management and government relations outreach, and collaborating on communications efforts related to the organization’s legal services and policy work. This is a unique opportunity to hold a central position in the Department of Law and Policy (reporting to the Director) and support and learn about all areas of the organization’s programmatic and policy work.


Please Note: Our office is currently open on an “as-needed” basis. Staff members are given an option to work from home, work from the office, or a combination of both, depending upon their needs and the requirements of their job. All Her Justice staff are provided with a business laptop computer.

 Policy Program Assistant Responsibilities:

 Manage data reporting and visualization for the Department of Law & Policy Provide administrative support for policy and advocacy work

Serve as liaison to Development and Communications Department and assist with developing communications materials to further policy and program priorities


Who You Are

  •  At least one year of relevant experience in legal or social services or policy/advocacy work, including the ability to synthesize data and/or ideas clearly and concisely and for multiple stakeholder audiences;
  • Demonstrated interest in and commitment to social justice/racial equity/gender justice/immigrant rights/anti-poverty law and policy, with an understanding of the needs of the communities that Her Justice serves.
  • Exceptional written, oral communications, and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google suite or demonstrated ability to adapt to new tech environments quickly.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect the ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks without losing attention to detail.
  • Interest in learning about legal services data management and reporting/visualization.


Experience in these areas is a plus:

  •  Communications, especially around legal services or policy/advocacy.
  • Knowledge of New York City, New York State, and/or federal budget and legislative processes.

 Note: for those without extensive experience in any of the above, we are looking for curiosity and a desire to learn on the job!


The salary for this position is in the range of $45,000 to $50,000, dependent on experience. Her Justice also offers excellent benefits such as medical insurance, a 401K plan, and a liberal vacation policy.
