New Alternatives for Children, Inc. (NAC) is an award-winning not-for-profit agency in Midtown Manhattan, with a satellite Bronx office, dedicated to serving children and families with medical and mental health challenges. To assist in achieving this mission, NAC is currently seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join its Article 31 Mental Health Clinic.  

NAC’s Article 31 Mental Health Clinic provides an excellent opportunity for professional development and training for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners. There are multiple opportunities for on-site trainings and continuing education credits, and the PMHNP will receive weekly individual supervision with a senior clinician, and bi-weekly group supervision with all psychiatric prescribers.

New Alternatives for Children is a highly sought-after training site for multiple mental health disciplines, including psychiatry, psychology, mental health counseling, and social work. Additionally, NAC’s Article 31 Mental Health Clinic is co-located and integrated with an Article 28 Medical Clinic, led by a Developmental Pediatrician, Pediatric Nurse Practitioners, and registered nurses. New Alternatives for Children values a team approach, and PMHNPs collaborate frequently with all disciplines for best patient outcomes.

·      Title of Position:  Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

·      Position Type: Full Time | Part-Time

·      Location: 37 West 26th Street New York NY 10010 (and/or) 1775 Grand Concourse Bronx NY 10453

·      Department: Article 31 Mental Health Clinic

·      Salary: Salary commensurate with level of experience.

·      Special Working Conditions: Employment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a fingerprint background check.

·      Work Schedule: Monday through Friday (Some evening hours may be required; option to work Saturday’s if preferred)

Description of Responsibilities: 

·      Under the direction of the Director of Mental Health Services and Assistant Director of Psychiatric Services, provides psychiatric care including comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management to children, adolescents, and adults.

·      Successful candidates will have specialty training in psychiatry and have expertise in addressing the mental health/psychiatric needs of a diverse population.

·      Candidates will provide psychiatric consultation and expertise to other NAC staff as needed/required

·      Produce timely documentation and written reports

·      Opportunity to provide supervision and preceptorship to Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Interns

·      Other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:  

·      Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

·      State of New York RN/Nurse Practitioner License and Current Certificate (DEA number)

·      Must possess Registered Nurse with a Master's degree from an accredited college or university and specialty training in Psychiatry.

·      Candidates must be clinically competent in psychiatry and must possess sufficient experience to independently perform the duties of a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.

·      Preferred minimum of one year of post- graduation clinical experience in culturally competent, evidence-based clinical practice with children, adults, and families. New graduates are also strongly encouraged to apply.

·      Experience with children, adolescents, and adults involved in social welfare population preferred.

Required Skills: 

·      Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

·      Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a variety of clinical duties as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

·      Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
