General Description

This full-time, salaried position supervises all aspects of HAWC’s emergency shelter and reports

to HAWC’s Director of Programs. The Shelter Manager provides supervision to shelter staff and

provides direct service support as necessary. The Shelter Manager also oversees the safety and

upkeep of the shelter facility. This position is benefited with a salary range of $50,000 - $60,000

with consideration given to bilingual language skills and experience. This position is scheduled

for 40 hours per week at HAWC’s emergency shelter. The position requires regular morning,

afternoon, and possible evening and weekend hours.

Qualifications and Requirements:

● Bi-lingual in Spanish & English and bi-cultural background strongly preferred

● Supervisory and program management experience

● Knowledge of domestic violence and commitment to providing trauma-informed support

● Ability to chair meetings, coordinate teamwork, delegate tasks and foster positive team


● Strong interpersonal skills with experience in de-escalation

● Experience in multicultural settings and in developing multicultural programs

● Strong writing skills and ability to work on deadline

● Organization and administrative skill with attention to detail

● Proficiency with Google docs, Google sheets, Word and Excel

● Knowledge and capability of submitting required program reports

● Management/supervisory experience within a residential facility strongly preferred

● Access to reliable transportation to facilitate donation and supply delivery to shelter

Position Responsibilities:

● Supervises and supports shelter advocates, relief staff and shelter interns

● Manages the shelter schedule to insure 24 hour staff coverage

● Ensures that staff and shelter participants adhere to all shelter policies and safety

protocols, intervening with shelter/agency policies as necessary

● Provides advocacy and direct service support to shelter participants as needed

● Supervises client data, record keeping and the audit of shelter files

● Oversees and assures participants’ goals are coordinated appropriately and in a timely


● Leads shelter-based service team in the development and implementation of all direct

services including hotline procedures, one on one advocacy and support groups

● Oversees all shelter programming (children’s services, advocacy, program curricula,

donation coordination, recreational activities and camp referral program)

● Manages the shelter facility including reporting of repairs and maintenance to the

Director of Operations

● Identifies and communicates the needs of shelter participants and staff to Program

Director and Executive Director

● Attends regular supervision, leadership meetings, and monthly staff meetings

● Participates in backup manager rotation to field questions and provide guidance to staff

during evenings, weekends and holidays

● Expands HAWC’s community relations in housing resources, collaboration with other

community agencies and referrals

● Participates in preparing and hosting volunteer projects and third party site visits to the


● Participates in grant development, special events and fundraising as needed

● Completes all monthly contract reports as required by shelter specific grants

● Able to flex hours to meet the needs of the position, including providing backup coverage

as needed
