The Regional Food Bank is offering an exciting opportunity for a Director of Annual Giving and Donor Relations. This position will be responsible for directing the Food Bank’s Annual Giving & Donor Relations Program, refining and leading the strategy to maintain and increase annual giving revenue to support its work in 23 counties of New York State. The Director of Annual Giving & Donor Relations will collaborate with the Food Bank's direct response provider to acquire donors, convert volunteers and event attendees to annual donors, produce compelling direct mail and digital appeals, ensure high-quality donor communications, collaborate with colleagues to upgrade annual donors, and ensure timely and proper recognition and stewardship.

  • This position can be located in either the Montgomery, NY, or Latham, NY areas.
  • Hybrid work environment.

We are looking for a candidate with extensive experience and proven success in annual gift fundraisingexpertise in acquisition and conversionenthusiasm for Developmentprior supervisory experience, and a deep interest in data-informed best practices and industry trends.

Responsibilities of the position include:

Annual Giving & Donor Relations

  • In partnership with the CAO and Vice President of Philanthropy, leads the strategy to raise significant contributed income through the Regional Food Bank’s annual giving program.
  • Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of Food Bank programs;
  • Learns our cases for support, and national, state, and regional hunger and food insecurity statistics.
  • Plans, implements, and continually evaluates annual fundraising and engagement strategies, including the creation and implementation of a stewardship program, digital and direct mail strategies, data analytics, and partnership with Marketing and Communications colleagues and external partners to meet ambitious revenue goals.
  • Fosters and maintains positive relationships with current and potential annual giving donors by preparing compelling direct mail and digital campaigns, creating internal fundraising reports and presentations, attending events, and developing/implementing creative acknowledgement vehicles unique to the Regional Food Bank.
  • Works with colleagues to identify and convert event attendees and volunteers to annual donors.
  • Works with Leadership Giving colleagues to identify and re-assign annual donors ready to upgrade to mid- and major-level giving
  • Partners with Programs, Operations, and Finance leadership to ensure transparent and timely cross-department collaboration.
  • Identifies, researches, and communicates annual giving trends and fundraising policy developments that may impact the Food Bank.
  • Cultivates a deep understanding of annual giving landscape among leadership.
  • Participates in and leverages Feeding America network resources.
  • Supervises annual giving and donor relations staff.
  • Maintains accountability for administrative systems and procedures related to annual giving, utilizing, RE NEXT, and other applications.
  • Analyzes annual donor data to inform giving and engagement strategies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Community Outreach

Attends networking events on behalf of the Food Bank to increase professional network, refine relationship management skills, and enhance outreach and capacity.


  • Works independently and collaboratively with other departments and employees in support of the mission of the Food Bank;
  • Assists Advancement team colleagues with fundraising events and administrative duties, as needed;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Maintains a clean and safe workspace;
  • Follows all safety standards and procedures.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 4+ years of experience in annual giving and donor relations;
  • Proven success in annual fundraising;
  • Experience with fundraising CRMS, RE NEXT preferred;
  • Great enthusiasm for Development and a positive, can-do work ethos;
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Ability to work with diverse populations;
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills, and strong organizational skills including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks;
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and sit for extended periods of time;
  • A valid NYS driver’s license and willingness to travel within the Food Bank’s 23 county service area.

The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley was founded in 1990 to expand and improve service to charitable agencies and donor partners in Orange, Ulster, Dutchess, Rockland, Sullivan, and Putnam counties. Working in partnership with the food industry, the Food Bank collects large donations of unmarketable but wholesome food and distributes it to non-profit programs feeding our neighbors in need in 23 counties. From the Canadian border to the New Jersey border, in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provided 50 million pounds of food and grocery items to nearly 1,000 partner agencies in 2021.
