The National Black Leadership Commission on Health (Black Health) is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization founded in 1987, as the National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS, in 2019 changed its name to the National Black Leadership Commission on Health (Black Health). The organization adopted a new mission and expanded health focus that includes HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, cardiovascular disease, breast cancer, prostate cancer, sickle cell, diabetes, and mental health.  

Our mission is to “champion promotion of health and prevention of diseases to reduce disparities and achieve equity within the Black community”. To achieve the mission, we work with a broad spectrum of local, state, national leaders and stakeholders including public officials, clergy, medical providers, advocates, consumers, and media. Further, Black Health works to build the organizational capacity of service providers and give communities of African descent a visible presence in the formulation of public policies and allocation of resources.  

 With established affiliates and partners within the southern and northeastern regions, Black Health’s programs and initiatives include Community Mobilization; Leadership Training Institute; Community Service Training; Peer Advocates and Trainers in Health; Counseling, Testing and Linkage to Care; Conscientious Clinician, Student Internships; Public Policy/Advocacy Training; and National African American Hepatitis C Action Day.

 POSITION SUMMARY

Black Health seeks an Accounting Manager to lead and manage organizational finances, as well as serve as thought partner and member of the Management Team (MT). They will contribute to the organization’s vision, strategy and provide financial oversight and will be expected to effectively advance strategic budgeting, financial planning, analysis and tracking tools.  The Accounting Manager will be a critical interdepartmental role where they must clearly and effectively communicate and present financials to CEO, COO, the Board and key external stakeholders (e.g. funders and partner organizations)

WHAT YOU DO:

Strategic Financial and Accounting Management 

  • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
  • Oversee the financial status of the organization including long and short-term financial plans, budget monitoring, monthly financial and programmatic reports, conferring on financial optimization and compliance, provide guidance and action plans to promote continued financial health.
  • Lead the timely completion of organization’s annual audit, desk audits and preparation of Form 990. 
  • Audit accounts to ensure compliance with federal, state and city regulations.
  • Review monthly analysis of General Ledger Accounts.
  • Prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Ensure seamless financial operations – including supervision of Accountant, oversight of all government grants and contracts.
  • Oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Review and approve journal entries.
  • Liaise with funders as necessary, ensuring organization is compliant with all financial and administrative aspects of grants and contracts.
  • Provide senior leaders with monthly financial reporting and forecasts to provide guidance and support achieving programmatic goals/priorities.
WHAT YOU NEED:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, 7+ years non-profit experience.
  • Successful track record in setting priorities, keen analytical skills, organization and problem-solving skills which support and enable sound decision making.
  • Robust understanding of financial accounting within a c3 organization, with proven success managing organization’s finances in at least 1-2 senior roles.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills, with the ability to prioritize, negotiate and work with internal and external stakeholders.
BENEFITS

The salary for this position is within the range of $90,000 - 95,000 per year.

Black Health offers accrual of up to 4 weeks per year PTO, 7 sick days. Seventy percent of employer provided coverage for medical benefits, not including dental and vision. (Which will change at the onset of open enrollment.). POSITION DETAILS

This is a full-time exempt position based in New York, NY. Some travel will be required. Candidates must have received or be willing to receive the COVID-19 vaccination by date of hire to be considered. Proof of vaccination will be required. Additional evening and weekend hours are occasionally required to fulfill the duties of this position. Relocation is not available for this role.
