OUR WORK

More than 38 million Americans lack reliable access to nutritious meals. Meanwhile, 108 billion pounds of food go uneaten in the U.S. - the equivalent of 40% of the country’s food supply. Rethink Food exists to bridge the gap between perfectly good food that goes to waste and the demand for meals that many of our food-insecure neighbors face. Through Rethink Certified, we partner with restaurants, kitchens, and corporations to provide nutritious, culturally celebrated meals to communities impacted by food insecurity - while using excess food whenever possible. Since 2017 Rethink Food has directed $50M+ to local restaurants, distributed 15M+ meals to food-insecure communities in six cities, and converted 2.1M+ pounds of excess food into meals.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Senior Manager of Programs is a new position that will grow the capacity and resource pool of several in-house programs including Rethink Certified, Rethink Services, and our Sustainable Community Kitchen. Housed within the Rethink Certified team, this individual will provide direction around product procurement and sustainable sourcing with a lens on community needs, including building external relationships, strategizing logistics, and working to maximize financial resources. This individual will also implement a resource-sharing model that drives a pathway to “graduation” for our restaurant and community partners, collaborating closely with our Program team members to understand service gaps and build appropriate channels for information-sharing within the partner network. This position supervises the Program Manager and reports to the Senior Director of Programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Product Procurement & Sustainable Sourcing:
  • Collaborate with our Programs and Culinary teams to assess evolving food and supply needs at our Community Kitchen and among partnering restaurants and community organizations.
  • Guide engagement with existing food and supply vendors, manufacturers, farms, and wholesalers to coordinate product procurement and logistics.
  • Provide direction and execute vendor outreach and relationship management to secure new streams of donated and low-cost products.
  • Assess mission alignment and value-add of available products to inform sourcing and allocation.
  • Advance strategies for monetizing our product procurement and sustainability work.
  • Guide the exploration of group supply purchasing for restaurants and meal-making partners to leverage buying power and discounted rates.
  • Facilitate supplier bidding and align with the Senior Director of Programs on contract execution.
  • Develop and implement an SOP for partner ordering and pickup/delivery coordination.
  • Build an understanding of our internal trucking, community partner trucking, and 3PL providers to inform product procurement, logistics, and allocation.
  • Engage with our logistics team and partner network to coordinate product pickups and deliveries.
  • Invite feedback on allocated products to ensure alignment with partner needs and to inform procurement.
  • Maintain electronic donor and supplier information records, utilizing our CRM software for organization-wide visibility.
  • Collaborate within the Programs team to:
  • build a framework for the equitable and impactful allocation of products across our programs and partner network
  • identify potential areas of interest for funders
  • design engagement, recognition, and mission moment strategies for donors, suppliers, and partners
  • Partner Resource-Sharing:
  • Collaborate within the Programs team to ideate a resource-sharing model that builds a pathway for partner “graduation” from Rethink Certified by advancing:
  • small business development (trainings, mentorship, etc.)
  • meal program capacity (food procurement, operational strategy, etc.)
  • the general welfare of meal participants (via wrap-around services)
  • Determine the type of resources to be provided by Rethink vs. external groups.
  • Lean on Rethink’s junior-level associates to compile a comprehensive Rolodex of resources considering partner survey data and requests for support.
  • Facilitate outreach to external groups to learn more about their services and determine relevance and value-add in sharing with partners.
  • Guide the evolution of partner resource-sharing channels, such as our Rethink-branded app and newsletter. This includes building out a forum for partners to share operational needs and learn about resources directly from one another.
  • Program Reporting:
  • With direction from the Executive team and Senior Director of Programs, identify core metrics to guide program strategy.
  • Develop clear steps and timelines to advance toward team goals.
  • Liaise with our Data team to create dashboards that capture impact data.
  • Team Support:
  • Supervise and mentor the Program Manager.
  • Collaborate with team members on program planning and execution.
  • Support the Senior Director of Programs with priority projects and advancing organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned
