Women Enabled International (WEI) is now accepting applications for the position of Program Assistant. We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic administrative professional to work with our growing Programs Team to provide administrative support and facilitate the team’s ability to advance WEI’s mission, strategy, and programmatic priorities. This is an exciting opportunity to deepen the impact and reach of a unique global organization advancing the rights of women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities.
ABOUT WOMEN ENABLED INTERNATIONAL
Women Enabled International (WEI) advances human rights at the intersection of gender and disability to respond to the lived experiences of women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities; promote inclusion and participation, and achieve transformative equality. We envision a world where women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities claim human rights, act in solidarity, and lead self-determined lives.
WEI’s Programs Team undertakes the substantive work that furthers WEI’s mission. The Programs Team focuses its work around five key issues that particularly impact rights at the intersection of gender and disability: Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights; Gender-based Violence; Accountability and Access to Justice; Participation and Inclusion; and Discrimination, Equality, Stigma, and Stereotyping.
The team utilizes human rights legal advocacy tools—such as human rights documentation, advocacy with U.N. human rights experts, and litigation support—to promote human rights standards that are responsive to the issues impacting women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities. We further work to strengthen the capacity of all key stakeholders who have a role to play in advancing rights at the intersection of gender and disability. This includes strengthening the capacity of women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities themselves to be able to claim their human rights, as well as institutions such as U.N. agencies, service providers, non-governmental organizations in the feminist and disability rights movements, and others to respond to and ensure the rights of women, girls, and gender minorities. Finally, we are working to strengthen the international, regional, and national-level movements of advocates working at the intersection of gender and disability to work collectively to advance rights while also ensuring the participation and inclusion of women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities in other movements that address issues of importance to them.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Program Assistant will provide administrative support to the Programs Team to advance WEI’s mission and programmatic priorities. This is an administrative role.
In addition to supporting the broader portfolio of programmatic work, the Program Assistant will in particular support WEI’s work related to the Generation Equality (GEF) process. The GEF process is a global, multi-stakeholder initiative to accelerate progress towards gender equality through 2026. This process is coordinated by UN Women with the leadership of States, U.N. agencies, international organizations, philanthropic funds, civil society organizations, and private sector groups.
WEI has participated in GEF since 2020 and serves as a civil society leader of the Action Coalition on Feminist Movements and Leadership, one of the key leadership bodies of the GEF process. WEI also convenes the Inclusive Generation Equality Collective (IGEC), a group of feminists with disabilities and others advocating at the intersection of gender and disability that is working to ensure that women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities are included in all aspects of the GEF process. As part of a new phase of WEI’s work around the GEF process, WEI will be continuing this work and will be undertaking two new tasks: (1) a series of partnerships with organizations led by women, girls, and gender minorities with disabilities to help ensure accountability for and implementation of commitments made by States and others related to GEF priorities; and (2) strategic communications around GEF and implementation of GEF commitments.
