POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Exhibitions Associate

Classification: Part-Time Position (16 hours/week with flexible hours, including evening

and weekends)

Compensation: $20 per hour, depending on experience

Location: 3245 16th Street, San Francisco, CA 94103 / Work at Home / Off-site exhibitions

Reports To: Curator & Exhibitions Coordinator

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Exhibitions Associate assists the Curator and Exhibitions Coordinator and members of the earned revenue team with professional art handling services including installation, framing, packing and shipping, and retail operations. This position supports Creativity Explored artists and their contributions to the contemporary art world.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Professional experience in proper handling of 2-D framed artworks, sculpture, ceramics and textiles
  • De-installation and Installation experience of a wide range of artworks in different environments.  Includes painting and patching walls, hanging and installing artwork, adjusting lighting, producing and installing didactic materials, including wall labels, and transporting art
  • Framing skills including maintaining framing and art installation area by preparing a clean work space with organized tools and  materials, including ordering framing materials and supplies
  • Use of appropriate materials and methods for packaging, loading, shipping and securing art for safe transport - includes making custom soft packing and box building
  • Support retail operations, including customer service as needed
  • Art organization and utilization of the image database (currently Lightroom, but migrating to CatalogIt) in coordination with Gallery Coordinator and Gallery Associate
  • Assist with registrar duties, including loans, consignments, and inventory management
  • Support participation in CE’s annual art fairs in San Francisco and New York (1 - 3 per year) including organizing selection of artworks, coordinating logistics (delivery, shipment, installation and deinstallation), and directing client sales support
  • Other duties as assigned


ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP

The Exhibitions Associate is expected to work productively in a team environment, supporting our Earned Revenue team and collaborating with other CE departments.

The Exhibitions Associate will comply with established Creativity Explored policies and practices.


KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Experience in a gallery, studio, and/or museum setting, organizing, framing, and installing art
  • Organized and meticulous approach to working with art
  • Skilled at coordinating timelines and supporting multiple projects with varied team members
  • Strong project coordinating and  calendaring skills
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment and to work independently
  • Dynamic, entrepreneurial approach to work
  • Detail oriented problem-solver
  • Professional demeanor, impeccable judgment, excellent communication skills and ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work successfully with diverse individuals, including developmentally disabled artists, teaching staff, and the general public
  • Working knowledge of Lightroom, Adobe Creative Suite, Google, and POS systems
  • Prioritize core values that place CE artists’ input at the center of our work


OTHER SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds
  • ​Adhere to current Covid-19 practices and protocols as outlined in CE’s Employee Handbook and Operations Plan
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record, experience driving a cargo van a plus


PREFERRED  

  • Direct experience/knowledge of art resources in the Bay Area arts community a plus
  • Proficient with Google Suite or comparable programs a plus
  • Valid California driver’s license
  • Ability to speak and/or understand multiple languages a plus


TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

  • Complete and maintain CPR, First Aid, OSHA certification (initial certification to be completed within 30 days of date of hire)
  • Complete Creativity Explored staff training pertinent to position job responsibilities as assigned
