About Groundwork

Launched in 2018, Groundwork Collaborative is animated by the firm belief that We are the Economy. We know our economy will be stronger and more stable for all of us when all of us—especially Black, brown, disabled, immigrant, low-paid, women, and other historically marginalized people—are able to thrive. We believe truly progressive economic policy builds public power, breaks up concentrations of private power, and affirmatively centers people too long left out of prosperity, leading to better economic outcomes for everyone.

We work with economic policy experts, progressive movement leaders, advocates, and other key stakeholders to advance this progressive economic worldview; collaborate and foster new ideas; and develop new, stronger avenues to work together for greater impact. We are committed to breaking down issue silos, supporting and amplifying our partners’ work, and showing up for and with a myriad of partners on critical economic issue campaigns.

About the Campaigns and Partnerships Team

Groundwork’s Campaigns and Partnerships team builds cohesion behind our economic worldview to produce a more just, inclusive, and prosperous economy. We are constantly generating new ideas, crafting everything from internal message guidance and polling projects to public events, coalition-driven campaigns, and short-term advocacy efforts to influence timely economic policy debates.

We work closely with economic policy experts, grasstops leaders, policymakers and their staff, and other key stakeholders to tip the scales during timely fights for economic justice, as we’ve done recently on issues like Unemployment Insurance, inflation, public investment, and economic relief and recovery programs. We’re conveners, with a deep commitment to good partnership and always bringing new, diverse stakeholders into our circles.

We’re savvy, strategic thinkers who know how to spot an opportunity to advance our worldview and influence national economic policy debates, identify new audiences for Groundwork’s resources, and support and amplify the great work our partners are already doing so we’re all better aligned to achieve our common goals. We’re fearless in our approach to narrative change and are focused more on how to make the right economic messages popular tomorrow than we are on the poll-tested messages of today.

Position Summary

The Senior Program Manager/Associate Director is a leader on the Campaigns and Partnership team who will manage our Popular Education work, expand and sustain our partner universe, hone our narrative for issue campaigns and grasstops audiences, and identify opportunities for Groundwork to advance a progressive economic worldview.

As a Senior Program Manager/Associate Director, you’ll:

  • Lead Groundwork’s Popular Education programs and curriculum, including designing and updating curriculum, facilitating presentations, growing awareness of Groundwork’s offerings, and developing a plan to schedule and staff regular Popular Education sessions.
  • Grow and support an internal project team to ensure the Popular Education portfolio reflects the organization’s priorities and the latest polling, messaging, and research.
  • Grow and manage portions of Groundwork’s partner network, with an emphasis on grasstops partners in states.
  • Track and execute polling, message testing, and other narrative work on the economy to ensure that Groundwork continues to be a trusted resource on economic messaging.
  • Support the Campaigns & Partnerships team’s other major programs, including working with policy experts, grasstops leaders, and policymakers in support of Groundwork’s campaigns and rapid response work.
  • Work in coordination with our other teams to create and implement trainings, develop materials, engage partners, and support other projects that advance Groundwork’s core mission.
  • Help devise creative strategies for disseminating Groundwork’s resources and messaging to our networks.
  • Support logistics, operations, and contracts for programs as needed.

About you:

  • You’re committed to advocating for an economy that works for everyone and centers on justice and equity, and are interested in working on economic policy.
  • You have a significant interest in economic policy and are already comfortable with or eager to learn about issues like inflation, economic recovery policies, public investment, and other issues.
  • You have experience building relationships with organizational partners or working in coalitions, especially with state-based and regional organizations.
  • You are an experienced and successful project manager, building projects from brainstorming to execution.
  • You’re an experienced facilitator or trainer who connects well with a variety of audiences.
  • You’re a strong writer who can draft high-quality, accurate, and compelling written materials on tight deadlines.
  • You’re an excellent communicator across formats, distill complex topics, cut through jargon and terms of art, and underscore the true core of an issue to translate it, so it resonates with different stakeholders.
  • You’re a problem solver who suggests solutions when you see challenges.
  • You’re flexible and willing to pitch in.
  • You’re comfortable using (or learning) Google Suite, Slack, major social media platforms, and Microsoft Office.

The salary for Senior Program Manager starts at $79,000; the salary for Associate Director starts at $95,000. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union, and employment terms will be subject to future collective bargaining.
