Position Summary: ATASK is in search of a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a full-time Manager of Residential Services, which is composed of the Emergency Shelter and the Transitional Housing Programs.  These programs, which are part of our Asian Shelter and Advocacy Program (ASAP), provide shelter and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence. ATASK shelter operates 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.  The position is based out of our Emergency Shelter in Boston.

ATASK’s mission is to empower Asian survivors of domestic violence and abuse to rebuild their lives. Our work bridges language and cultural gaps for Asian communities and advocates for social change. The ideal candidate will be a passionate advocate for victims, survivors and their children and will work as a team member of ATASK to provide comprehensive services to the Asian and general community. 


Typically, Monday-Friday of various shifts: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Occasional after-hours and weekend work as needed for coverage and to respond to emergencies

Flexible schedule is expected

Reports to: ASAP Operations Manager & ASAP Clinical Manager

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The Manager of Residential Services is responsible for the smooth functioning and daily

operations of the Shelter and Transitional Housing Programs. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining a respectful atmosphere, and the compassionate and respectful delivery of services.  Active participation and leadership ensuring high quality services and program standards is a key requirement of this position.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Managerial Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall functioning of ATASK’s Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing Programs.
  • Supervise Shelter Advocate, Transitional Housing Advocate, Residential Counselors, and Interns, including use of client database, regular supervision, conducting  of evaluations, and approval of timesheets and schedules.
  • Hire, train and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for residential staff
  • Ensure that program staff fulfills all training requirements including Domestic Violence, CPR, First Aid, food safety, and any other applicable trainings/certifications
  • Schedule and ensure 24-hour coverage for the Emergency Shelter as well as the Hotline
  • Manage client and shelter crises, with consultation and support from the Management team
  • Maintain relationships with social service agencies, housing programs and community partners including DCF, housing authorities, transitional housing programs and Boston Healthcare for
  • the Homeless.
  • Represent ATASK and make presentations at provider meetings and community events.
  • Continually assess program shelter policies and procedures, and update and/or develop accordingly.
  • Manage, evaluate and improve existing programs (i.e. Children’s Program, Community Building Program, PALS), and develop new programs based on client interest and need (i.e. support
  • groups, survivor leadership)
  • Follow and reinforce ATASK and shelter policies and procedures for staff and clients, including the
  • confidentiality of the shelter location and its residents.
  • Oversee the physical plant and shelter property to ensure its safety, maintenance, and compliance with building regulations required by the state and funders. This includes the coordination of vendors and capital projects.
  • Oversee and monitor program budgets
  • Conduct meetings related to residential programs, with residential staff, ATASK management team, and shelter clients
  • Attend other ATASK meetings such as direct services meetings, all staff meetings, and supervision
  • Ensure compliance with service delivery components of funding contracts and grants, and complete required forms and reports
  • Complete and submit grant reports for shelter and transitional housing, and provide support for other grant applications and reports
  • Maintain and update relevant program records and data, such as client statistics, maintenance logs, daily logs and client services records
  • Fill out ATASK incident reports as needed. Follow-up and conclude all incident reports
  • Attend and support ATASK fundraising events.
  • Keep up to date on new program and policy developments in the housing field.

Direct Service Responsibilities:

  • Answer the 24-hour hotline and provide follow-up to callers as needed
  • Screen, complete intake and assessments, and provide orientation for incoming shelter clients
  • Facilitate move-in and move-outs for shelter and transitional housing clients
  • Provide regular case management, crisis intervention, client mediation, collaboration with external service providers, and wraparound services
  • Facilitate communal living and communication for a diverse population of residents
  • Collaborate with other ATASK programs (such as ESOL, Legal, Community Based Services, and Finance)
  • Maintain relationships and interface with residential program partners including donors, children’s
  • programs, volunteers, other DV/SA programs, food banks, emergency personnel
  • (fire, police, medical, crisis), and other agencies.
  • Coordinate, pick up and deliver donations from the Food Bank, Cradles to Crayons, and others


  • Bachelor’s degree and 3 years’ experience in the field, or equivalent experience
  • Bilingual English and Asian language speaking preferred
  • Experience providing supervision, managing programs, and working in residential settings,
  • Experience with case management, group facilitation and individual counseling.
  • Understanding of housing issues and knowledge of community resources.
  • Demonstrated crisis intervention, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of trauma issues as they relate to domestic violence survivors and their families, causes and effects of domestic violence, related safety issues, ethnic diversity, and language and cultural barriers
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusivity, and ability to work effectively with a
  • diverse population of clients
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, and willingness to engage in difficult and direct conversations
  • Ability and willingness to speak in public
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and dependability
  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office and Office 365
  • Current driver’s license required and access to a car preferred.
  • Ability to pass a background check (CORI) required
