POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Volunteer Recruitment Fellow role is a full-time stipend volunteer position, made available through partnership with the AmeriCorps Program. The term of service will begin in September and end in August, with the option to renew for a second term. The position includes both direct involvement with scholars, and administrative tasks, to support Higher Achievement’s progressive, skills-based cultural and academic model. This Fellow works closely with the Senior Manager of Volunteers and Curriculum to identify, recruit, train, and support volunteers, as well as with Directors of Program Operations and Learning Directors in to support scholar recruitment efforts, Responsibilities will focus on four key areas:

·        Volunteer recruitment

·        Volunteer onboarding and training

·        Scholar recruitment

·        Act as a Center Buddy


AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

Volunteer Recruitment

Outcome(s): Recruit between 50-100 volunteers from September through August.

·        Work with the Senior Manager of Volunteers & Curriculum to identify potential volunteer pipelines (corporate, universities, community groups, etc.)

·        Build upon and pursue new university partnerships to generate new volunteer management pipelines.

·        Support with facilitating informational recruitment presentations for corporate partners. If needed, attend tabling, flyering, and canvassing events to meet the 100% volunteer recruitment goal.

·        Lead peer-to-peer recruitment efforts among current mentors.


Volunteer Onboarding and Training

Outcome(s): Ensure that all volunteers have completed every step in the onboarding and training process and are placed at a Center in a timely manner.

·        Manage clearance process for all mentors getting background checks or renewing their clearances. Support Learning Coordinators at each center to track clearance completion, communicate with mentors, and share clear instructions for the process.

·        Throughout the year, visit centers at least 4 times/month to observe mentoring sessions and offer feedback to Learning Coordinators and mentors.

·        Conduct informational interviews by phone with prospective mentors.

·        Track status of new mentors’ onboarding through Salesforce system.


Scholar Recruitment

Outcome(s): Assist center teams in recruiting new scholars to fill rosters

·        Serve as support to assist center teams by conducting New Applicant Meetings with scholars and families

·        Serve as support to assist center teams by conducting classroom presentations to perspective scholars


Center Buddy

Outcome(s): Assist the center team in achieving their center deliverables.

·        Assist as a Center Buddy at sites, as needed (1-2 days/week maximum), including[JF1] 

·        Serve as extra support at center events or outings, including a college trip for scholars in August, Assist as needed with phone calls or presentations.

·        Act as extra support in the event of low staff attendance.

·        Serve as a scholar mentor, if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Must be 18 years of age or older

·        High school or GED

·        Citizenship or proof of legal residency

·        Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent

·        Dynamic, flexible, culturally sensitive applicants with positive personalities required

·        Previous experience as a regular volunteer/mentor or experience working with youth strongly preferred

·        Strong attention to details

·        Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Outlook, and Word 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is regularly performed in an office environment and a school setting, with occasional trips off-site to parks, museums, etc. Employee may spend long periods of time sitting, standing, and walking. Must be able to walk from one part of the worksite to another and climb stairs. Employee regularly lifts, carries, and positions objects weighting up to 20 pounds. Position involves regular use of a computer and keyboard, telephone, and face-to-face communication in small and large group settings with youth and adults; employee must be able to communicate clearly and professionally in all of these situations. Employee must have visual, auditory, and physical ability to respond quickly to critical incidents involving students and act in an emergency situation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:  

                      

Schedule/Travel:

This position will begin on September 1, 2022, and end on August 31, 2023. AmeriCorps members work Monday through Friday with some Saturday hours for volunteer recruitment events. The standard schedule is Monday-Thursday, 9 am- 5:00 pm and Friday, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, excluding an up to 30 min lunch break (optional). As a center buddy, please note this position would work evening hours whenever supporting at center which operate Monday- Thursdays, approximately, 3:00-8:00 pm. There is flexibility to set a different regular work schedule and the ability to flex hours, subject to manager approval and full Higher Achievement policies. Candidate must have the ability to travel in between main office to Achievement Center(s) via reliable transportation. Occasional weekend availability is required, as well as availability for one annual three-day overnight college trip each summer, if offered.[JF2] 


Compensation and Benefits:

The Recruitment Fellow will receive a living allowance of $21,000 designed to help meet the necessary living expenses incurred while participating in the AmeriCorps Program. Upon successful completion of 1700 hours of service, the Member will receive an education award in the amount of $6,495. Higher Achievement offers competitive benefits, including company-paid health insurance; twelve paid holidays; six weeks paid time off; professional development opportunities, and SMARTrip benefits.



Background Check & Clearance Requirements:

If selected, the applicant must agree to undergo the National Service Criminal History Check, which includes: state criminal history registries for state of residence and Washington, DC; FBI fingerprint check; and National Sex Offender Public Registry. Candidate must be able to pass all additional clearance requirements as mandated by school districts and state/local municipalities. Higher Achievement pays for all clearance steps for its employees.



Office Status:

Higher Achievement is a hybrid work environment organization; All staff are able to work within a hybrid arrangement with in-person time focused on mission critical activities and relationship building rather than an expected amount of time in the office. This position can be within commuting distance of the Washington DC Metro Area. At that time, this position will be expected to spend in-person time at the Higher Achievement DC office for in-person-based needs, with more time expected during the onboarding period. This will primarily consist of day travel.


Covid-19 Update:

Higher Achievement requires proof of FULL Covid-19 vaccination* of all of its program staff to include: Managing Director of Programs, Director of Program Operations, Learning Director, Learning Coordinator, Literacy Aide, Director of Academic and Social-Emotional Learning, Senior Manager of Volunteers and Curriculum, Manager of Alumni Programs, Program Coordinator, Director of High School Placement and Alumni Programs, and AmeriCorps Member positions. *Effective 1/1/22 FULL Vaccination will mean that staff who are *eligible* to receive a booster shot, as per current CDC guidelines, will need to provide proof of receiving a Covid-19 booster shot, in addition to proof of having received the primary vaccination series. Unless an accommodation has been granted by HA, proof of vaccination is required before employment may begin.
