Position Profile:

The Wellness Specialist serves as the lead staff person working with the Community Empowered Program within Bread for the City’s SE Social Services Program. This position is located at the SE Center. All staff members of the Community Empowered Program work in concert with the Workforce Development Program. The Wellness Specialist is expected to work as part of this energetic and innovative team to provide the highest level of service possible to the community members participating in the Program. Collaboration among team members is essential and creative problem solving is strongly encouraged. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

• Recruitment of new community members into the program;
• Conduct assessments and crisis management as needed; 
• Develop and implement strategies to allow community members to improve and maintain their health and well-being;
• Assist in developing innovative programs to enhance the Program’s continuum of services;
• Develop and Facilitate workshops/events for the Program, as needed;
• Serves as task or field supervisor for social work students and interns;
• Work closely with the SE Social Services team to identify a range of appropriate programs and services to meet the community member’s needs;
• Develop and maintain partnerships within the community via participation in community-based events and activities;
• Conduct outreach to community members to increase participation and gather feedback about the program and services provided;
• Work closely with the Associate Director to develop innovative and “out of the box” strategies for program activities and special projects;
• Assist in developing tools to support evaluation of the Program’s services;
• Carry out responsibilities in a manner consistent with the core values and mission of Bread for the City;
• Complete additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• A Master’s Degree in human services or relevant subject; 
• Professional license (LICSW, LPC, etc.) or license eligible; 
• Excellent assessment skills;
• Knowledge of and/or experience with low-income populations;
• Commitment to working with low-income residents of DC in a community-based setting; 
• Strong attention to detail, oral and written communication skills, and computer proficiency;
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills; 
• Empathy, creativity, and flexibility; 
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to work well with a wide variety of people; 
• Strong time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines; 
• Commitment to providing services with a client centered focus and within an atmosphere of dignity and respect;
• Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team, including the ability to work with volunteers in a professional and collaborative manner;
• Willingness to learn and carry out Bread for the City's commitments to social justice and racial equity;
• Familiarity with Google Organization & Productivity Tools (Gmail, Google Docs, Calendar) and/or ability to learn new technology systems.
