Immigrant Social Services, Inc. (ISS) seeks a Data and Research Specialist to join the Chinatown360 Community Coalition team. This position will be a key member of the coalition team to guide, manage, and grow our collective work on addressing the risk and protective factors at the community and environmental levels that prevent substance misuse among Chinese American/immigrant youth in New York City through a community-centered and intersectional lens by building and advancing the use of data to inform community-led strategies.

Chinatown360 is a community coalition stewarded by Immigrant Social Services (ISS) and supported by the NYS Office of Addiction Support & Services (OASAS). Comprising of a group of Chinatown and Asian American organizations, groups, and individuals, Chinatown360 believes in the transformative power of interdisciplinary, multi-sector, community collaboration and mobilization that centers on the realities of Chinese/Asian American youth in New York City to create the conditions that improve their wellbeing, safety, and connection. Through increased collaboration, coordinated planning and sharing of resources and expertise, we aim to foster social and emotional health for Asian American/immigrant youth and cultivate a physical and social environment that minimize their access to alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs, as well as mitigate other associated risks.

About ISS: Immigrant Social Services, Inc. (ISS) is a non-profit organization based in NYC Manhattan’s Chinatown and Lower East Side dedicated to improving the conditions of underserved immigrants and children of immigrants. Through programs and services, we nurture and empower children/youth, young adults, seniors, and families to develop and restore their agency and enhance the wellbeing of our communities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Synthesize and analyze existing research and assessments to produce accessible data and research that can be used by coalition members, practitioners, advocates, and community members.
  • Work with coalition team to refine and adapt project work plan, including strategic planning, data collection, needs assessment, research, evaluation, capacity building, and sustainability.
  • Collect, extract, analyze, and organize usable data from diverse sources.
  • Produce reports, summaries, presentations in the form of written narratives, data charts, data visualization and stories, and resource lists to communicate findings
  • Create and maintain outward-facing data that can be utilized by members, practitioners, advocates, and policymakers and support their understanding and applying data and research findings in their work.
  • Collaborate with community stakeholders and members to identify, articulate, and refine community-led research.
  • Understand and navigate the dynamics between government institutions and community-based organizations serving marginalized communities.
  • Attend training, meetings, briefings, and conferences.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred in relevant field, such as public health, data science, prevention science, social sciences.
  • 2+ years of relevant post-degree experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in data management, data systems, applied research, project management, and analysis of the role of community-based quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven ability to communicate complex and/or technical information with clarity that is accessible and user-friendly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency with data tools such as spreadsheets, databases, statistical software, and coding languages for data management and analysis.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including community members and academic partners.
  • Working knowledge of substance misuse prevention strategies, public and community health, community development, health equity, racial justice, and issues that impact the Asian American/immigrant communities and Chinatowns.
  • Familiarity with or ability to build an understanding of equitable and inclusive research methods and principles of data equity.
  • Experience working with culturally specific community-based organizations, local government, and nonprofit partners.

This is a full-time, exempt, grant-funded position currently funded until June 30, 2025.Continued employment is contingent on the receipt of additional grant funds.
