    Team Democracy brings together Americans of all political perspectives around our shared commitment to the core principles of our constitutional democracy. Our focus is on countering toxic polarization and promoting free, fair, and inclusive elections. We amplify positive messages and actions that uphold democratic institutions, norms, and processes.

    One of our key initiatives, R.A.F.T. for America (Reuniting America by Fostering Trust), organizes outdoor experiences and community events to bring people together across political divides. This initiative was recently featured on CBS evening news and PBS, highlighting our growing national impact.

    We are a rapidly expanding startup with huge potential for growth, and we’re looking for a dynamic, self-motivated professional to build and lead our fundraising and development efforts. To start, this role will average 15-20 hours weekly.

    About the Role

    This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial fundraising professional to create and shape a development program from the ground up. The Fundraising & Development Manager will be responsible for designing and executing fundraising strategies, cultivating donor relationships, and securing financial resources to expand our programs. As we grow, this role has strong potential for career advancement into a leadership position.

    Key Responsibilities

    Fundraising & Donor Development (90%)

    • Fundraising Strategy & Execution: Develop and implement a multi-channel fundraising strategy, including major gifts, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, foundation grants, and special events.
    • Donor Cultivation & Relationship Management: Identify, cultivate, and steward donors, corporate sponsors, and foundation partners to strengthen long-term engagement and financial support.
    • Major Gifts & Planned Giving: Build and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects, creating personalized solicitation strategies to secure significant contributions.
    • Grant Research & Writing: Identify and apply for grant opportunities from local, state, and national sources; manage submission timelines and reporting requirements.
    • Event Fundraising & Coordination: Plan and execute fundraising events such as galas, donor receptions, and community gatherings, securing sponsorships and in-kind donations.
    • Corporate & Community Partnerships: Develop relationships with businesses, foundations, and community leaders to support organizational growth.
    • Database & Reporting: Utilize donor management systems to track fundraising activity, donor interactions, and revenue streams.
    • Board & Volunteer Engagement: Work with the board and volunteers to leverage networks for donor cultivation and fundraising support.

    Marketing & Brand Collaboration (10%)

    • Collaborate with the marketing team to align messaging across fundraising communications, appeals, and promotional materials.
    • Develop donor-focused content, including newsletters, impact stories, and social media campaigns, to strengthen donor engagement.
    • Assist in the creation of fundraising materials such as brochures, event invitations, and annual reports.

    Who You Are

    Passionate about democracy, civic engagement, and fostering meaningful connections across political divides.

    Entrepreneurial & Strategic—excited to build a fundraising program from the ground up.

    Results-Driven with a proven track record in nonprofit fundraising, donor relations, and revenue growth.

    A Strong Communicator with excellent grant writing, donor stewardship, and event planning skills.

    Tech-Savvy, comfortable using donor management software and online fundraising platforms.

    Qualifications

    • 3+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or donor relations.
    • Demonstrated success in securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
    • Experience planning and executing fundraising events and campaigns.
    • Familiarity with donor databases and CRM systems.
    • Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

    Bonus Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
    • Experience in civic engagement, political advocacy, or community-building organizations.
    • Knowledge of corporate giving and nonprofit funding landscapes.
