The Save Our wild Salmon Coalition’s Grassroots Organizing Coordinator is responsible for working in close coordination and effective collaboration with the SOS Team, coalition member organizations and lower Snake River campaign partners and allies to develop and to implement strategic, integrated grassroots/communications projects to educate, inspire and mobilize the public and expand visibility around the plight of endangered salmon and support for urgently restoring the lower Snake River by removing four federal dams in southeast Washington and replacing their services with alternatives.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience as an advocate for policy change, be an excellent colleague and collaborator with professional staff as well as volunteer leaders, bring creativity and positivity to the position, and be results-oriented.

SOS is a leading organization in one of the Northwest’s and nation’s most significant and fast-paced conservation campaigns with profound implications for critically endangered salmon and orcas, Indigenous communities, fishing and farming communities and clean energy and climate.

This position will play a key role – working closely with others – to design, oversee, implement and support targeted coalition/campaign activities – education and outreach, organizing activities, communication projects - during a critical window of opportunity for the Snake River and its imperiled fish populations.This position requires working effectively with diverse campaign partners, allies and volunteers to develop and implement targeted grassroots organizing and advocacy projects and activities integrated with strategic communications that will support and advance the goals of the Lower Snake River Campaign. The Grassroots Organizing Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and will manage a program budget to support successful, impactful grassroots activities and projects led by Save Our wild Salmon and/or its coalition partners and allies. The Grassroots Organizing Coordinator works closely with SOS staff and a key set of coalition partners, advisors and volunteers to ensure programs and activities are well coordinated and support each other to achieve shared goals. 

  • Provide leadership and active support for the lower Snake River Campaign Grassroots Committee members and others to assist planning and implementing strategic, creative, targeted public education and organizing activities to support and advance campaign goals.
  • Manage and implement, in collaboration with other team members and campaign partners, multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Manage a program budget and inform spending decisions to support priority grassroots projects and goals led/co-led by SOS or coalition/campaign partners.
  • Develop and implement SOS-led outreach and advocacy projects: presentations, sign-on letters, recruitment and management of volunteers and allied partners, and more.
  • Participate in and/or lead regular and periodic SOS and campaign-related conference calls and meetings.
  • Identify, recruit and support the engagement of new strategic campaign partners, leaders and volunteers/activists.
  • Develop proficiency in our database management and communications software.
  • Serve on the Snake River Restoration Campaign Advisory Committee, and help ensure effective communications and coordination between the grassroots committee and activities and other campaign groups and committees – policy, communications, D.C., etc.
  • Other related tasks as assigned and mutually agreed to.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in campaign organizing and/or grassroots advocacy
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills, including an ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies including conservationists, anglers and businesspeople, and Indigenous communities and communities of color
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience managing budgets and outside vendors
  • Experience managing and mentoring staff and working with volunteers
  • Proven project management skills

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) database, like Salsa
  • Experience working with Indigenous, Black, and/or rural communities
  • Creativity in developing and implementing advocacy and organizing projects
  • Experience working on political campaigns

USD $45.000 - USD $65.000

Compensación

This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $45,000 to $65,000 depending on experience. We also offer a benefits package including medical insurance, paid vacation and sick leave, ten paid holidays per year. Location is flexible, but we have a strong preference for this position to be based in or near Seattle (WA) or Portland (OR).
