Home Preservation Staff Attorney

Under the direction of the Program Director of Home Preservation, the Staff Attorney is responsible for coordinating and aiding in home preservation including eviction defense and housing issues. The Staff Attorney meets with and advises clients of legal rights and issues, conducts legal research and writing, provides community education, and represents client in eviction process. Substantive work is also done in conjunction with and under the supervision of the Director of Asian Language Legal Intake Program (ALLIP).

70% Client Support

• Handle a high volume of a variety of home preservation issues including housing, housing discrimination, landlord-tenant disputes, eviction defense including representation in depositions, settlement negotiations, court hearings and trials in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, and other related housing law matters
• Counsel and advise clients of legal rights and options, draft legal pleadings and conduct legal research and writing
• Conduct community legal clinics/workshops; train volunteers and pro-bono attorneys to serve clients and communities

20% Community Education

• Coordinate client services with legal interns, legal assistant/advocate, and partner service organization
• Coordinate and conduct community education and outreach; develop and revise community education materials including training manual and brochures

10% Other Duties as Assigned

• Participate in the development and implementation of annual practice work plan
• Work with ALLIP Director to meet funding and reporting requirements
• Attend trainings on substantive legal areas
