JVS provides a broad range of services including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforce.


DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW: JVS’s Employer Engagement (EE) team is the newest branch of the agency focused on providing customized services, talent pipeline training programs, and other services to local businesses and organizations. We partner with employers to plan, design and deliver customized workforce development programs with the two-fold goal of helping lower-skilled employees perform their jobs more effectively and transition to higher-paying jobs, while supporting employers to develop, retain, and advance their workforce. We partner with 40+ major employers throughout Greater Boston in the healthcare, hospitality, retail and manufacturing sectors, providing basic education, job training, career ladder, and coaching, to over 100 job seekers every year

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Manager of Business Development, the Job Readiness Trainer develops and modifies contextualized curriculum and daily lesson plans for academic and/or job skill training programs, delivers training to participants, evaluates progress and skill attainment of individual participants on a scheduled basis, tracks outcomes, and supports trainee success post-training through job coaching. This role will also be responsible for developing strong job leads, providing high quality career counseling, and job placement assistance to job seekers recruited and referred from our community partners. This includes but is not limited to initiating and sustaining collaborative working relationships with a variety of businesses in the greater Boston area to create employment opportunities for clients as well as with tracking client outcomes, coaching clients, communicating with employers, interviewing and screening applicants, building marketing strategies and performing outreach, and providing reports to internal and external partners including staff, employers, and funders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Content Design and Delivery:

·      Deliver existing job readiness curriculum (in person and virtually depending on cohort need) to Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Patient Care Technician (PCT), Early Childhood Educator (ECE) training cohorts

·      Develop and deliver contextualized curriculum for new pipeline programs (in person and virtually depending on cohort need) as needed

·      Update and modify curriculum based on the needs of participants, certification requirements and employer and funding partners

·      Be flexible to individual learning styles, and set appropriate limits to ensure all trainees have an equal opportunity to learn

·      Take ownership of the trainer role and model professional behaviors in and outside the classroom

·      Create course calendars and syllabi for scheduled programming

·      Submit a course description at the beginning of each cycle which outlines the topics to be covered in the class.


·      Incorporate organizational and workplace materials into the curriculum.

·      Develop daily lesson plans for each component and enter these plans to the SALESFORCE database on a weekly basis.

·      Set course and professional behavior expectations, for all classes, at the start of the cohort.

·      Track and meet program enrollment, retention, skill attainment, client satisfaction goals

·      Create a classroom environment where all trainees feel heard, can express ideas, learn and problem solve in creative ways

·      Create emergency lesson plans and submit these plans to their supervisor at the beginning of each active cycle.

·      Deliver all subject matter outlined in the curriculum with the goal of ensuring that trainees obtain the predetermined outcomes (skills).

·      Incorporate the JVS Core Skills regularly into the curriculum (test taking, organization, scheduling, research, critical thinking/problem solving, study skills, computer skills, and soft skills).

·      Evaluate student progress on a regular basis, providing trainees with feedback regarding performance in class and any obstacles that may be impeding progress.


Accountability and Results Focused:

·      Provide high quality 1:1 job coaching including interview preparation, resume creating and tailoring resumes, personal branding and self-marketing strategies, and social media

·      Actively develop, engage and maintain employer relationships

·      Assist job seekers in goal setting, identifying barriers and mapping out a plan leading to job placement, skills upgrades and career advancement

·      Effectively market participants to employers, solicit appropriate job openings, schedule interviews, solicit feedback and confirm placements

·      Target appropriate employment opportunities based on job seeker’s experience, skills and career goals.

·      Understand and apply knowledge of internet and social media resources for job seekers

·      Understand and apply knowledge of local and national labor market trends to assist job seekers to identify career opportunities

·      Establish, track and meet program dashboard indicators using database software

 

Builds Relationships, Collaboration and Teamwork:

·      Engage trainees through clear and supportive communication.

·      Provide assistance with assessment, enrollment, delivery of services, pre/post testing

·        Support the mission and philosophy of the JVS Mission and agency team

·      Establish positive working relationships with all members of the agency

·      Work collaboratively with and encourage collaboration between team members to ensure performance goals for departments are met

·      Attend and actively participate in staff meetings and team-based projects

·      Work collaboratively across JVS departments to assist in the building and implementation of cross departmental processes for advertising training opportunities, recruiting, and screening candidates, and shared management documents

·      Work collaboratively with and encourage collaboration between team members to ensure performance goals for departments are met

·      Perform other duties as requested

·       Deliver all subject matter in the curriculum with the goal of ensuring that trainees meet programmatic skill gains and outcomes


·      Assign, edit and correct student work in a timely and ongoing basis

·      Collaborate and communicate with key staff in a structured and on-going manner to ensure student successes

·      Assist with planning and implementation of cohort graduations, orientations, and workshops

·       Generate strategy and solutions in response to both unforeseen and planned changes, setbacks and challenges with the goal of ensuring that clients obtain their predetermined goals

 

Administrative/Communication:

·      Highly professional presence and communication skills are a must, as the instructor will be representing JVS off site at employers, and will need to maintain good relationships with our employer partners

·      Communicate with their supervisor as directed for attendance and enrollment

·      Communicate with their supervisor regarding any concerns that may impact the student’s progress in the classroom.

·      Communicate regularly with Supervisor to ensure successful program performance

·      Support the team with event preparation and coordination, generating completion certificates, and Celebration of Achievement programs

·      Enter trainees’ enrollments, job placements, pre and post test scores into Salesforce database.

·      Perform other duties as requested.

 

BREAKDOWN OF JOB DUTIES

Below is an approximate breakdown of the duties for this role. This position will require the candidate to both train and coach participants in the pipeline programs. The below is a percentage approximation for the duties required in this role.

MINIMUM SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

·      Demonstrated ability to teach, motivate, and relate to adult learners.

·      Excellent presentation, facilitation, and classroom management skills

·      2 or more years of teaching experience with adults preferred

·      Knowledge of adult learning theory

·      Interpersonal, communication and organizational skills

·      Strong written and oral communication skills

·      Presentation and facilitation skills

·      Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills

·      Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with a diverse group of clients at all levels of the organization

EDUCATION REQUIRED

·      High school diploma required, BS or BA in Education or related field preferred


·      3 plus years directly related experience; or certificate/associates degree and 2 years of related experience.

WORKING CONDITIONS: All Employer Engagement Trainers will be teaching classes on site and virtually at area employers. Most sites are accessible by T, with additional contracts in the Greater Boston Area. At times there are conference rooms, but there are also sites where we are working within a store, café, or other untraditional teaching environment.
