Program Description:

Sunnyside Community Services (SCS), a multi-service settlement house located in Western Queens. SCS Youth and Family Services (YFS) department offers engaging, youth-centered programming to children and youth throughout Queens and beyond. We offer a free, full day Pre-Kindergarten, five afterschool and summer camp programs, two Beacon Community Centers, a Cornerstone program, a College Readiness and Retention program, a Job Readiness program, and ESOL. Our youth development continuum spans Pre-K to College, and services are offered across seven campuses.

Role Description:

The Program Director is primarily responsible for program operations such as budgeting, data collection and management, onsite management such as student recruitment and retention, and administration. The Program Director will also be tasked with designing a youth friendly program that offers academic assistance, as well as enrichment and recreational activities. This individual will be the key point person responsible for engaging and working with local schools, funders, and agency staff. The Program Director will manage the day-to-day operations of the program, interfacing with participants and stakeholders in a manner that promotes safety and compliance. In addition to the Program Director, the program will be staffed with an Assistant Director, Program Coordinator, and seasonal youth workers.

Responsibilities:

Working under the leadership of the Senior Director, the Program Director’s responsibilities will include:

·       Site Management:

o  Recruit and engage participants from the school to meet the needs of funders

o  Engage/work with program staff, school staff and leadership, funders, parents, and agency staff

o  Order, properly store, and maintain inventory of all office/program supplies

o  Ensure staff files are up to date and meet DOH or DYCD standards; Provide copies of staff files to Human Resources, or agency staff in the event of an audit

o  Record keeping and reporting (i.e., incidents, site visits)

·       Program Design and Implementation:

o  Develop and implement a program design that addresses contractual requirements, aligns with school goals/initiatives, engages participants, and incorporates best practices

o  Develop tools to assess program success and challenges; Ensure any feedback is shared with program staff and implemented into programming

o  Curriculum development and implementation

o  Staff observations; implementation of lesson plans as well as providing feedback and coaching

·       Staff Supervision and Development:

o  Supervise program staff including the Assistant Director and Program Coordinator

o  Plan and secure appropriate staff training and professional development opportunities for staff

 

·       Budgeting:

o  Work with supervisor and fiscal department to develop yearly budgets that incorporate agency and funder standards and conventions; attend monthly fiscal meetings

o  Track and manage spending in a manner that is reflective of approved budgets and budget trends

·       Data Collection and Management:

o  Oversee and manage the timely entry of program information into the database

o  Experience with Salesforce, EZreports, and DYCD connect a plus

Qualifications:

·       Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) in relevant field or Associates Degree with at least 18 approved coursework credits in Child Development, Education, or related field.

·       At least two years supervisory experience in a similar setting

·       Knowledge of budgeting and budget management

·       Knowledge of effective teaching methods and curriculum development

·       Experience working on multiple contracts; specifically, 21st Century and DYCD

·       Ability to meet background and educational requirements to serve as Program Director on the program’s SACC License

·       Experience in program operations for programs that serve youth and families

·       Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills

·       Cleared background check indicating ability to work with children

·       Computer literate with working knowledge of Microsoft Office

·       Current CPR and First Aid certification within 90 days of employment

·       Speakers of other languages are encouraged to apply
