About BCNC Adult Education and Workforce Initiatives Program
The Adult Education and Workforce Initiatives Program prepares adult immigrant learners with the education, training, and guidance needed to enroll in post-secondary education and job training, leading to employment at family-sustaining wages. Our goal is to provide 360 adults each year with the career and educational pathways they need to achieve social and economic self-sufficiency in the United States. Our students come from all over the world, including China, Haiti, Vietnam, Morocco, El Salvador, Brazil, Albania, Colombia, and Cape Verde. Our English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes and job training services are offered at the BCNC Boston and Quincy locations, during the day and evenings throughout the year.
About The Role
The ESOL Teacher (PT Quincy Advanced Adult) is responsible for developing and implementing a student-centered, goal-oriented curriculum that 1) aligns with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education (MA ELPS) and the vision of the BCNC Adult Education program, and 2) raises students’ English proficiency level so that they can achieve their educational and career goals. The Advanced ESOL curriculum is generally intended to move students from Educational Functioning Level (EFL)/Student Performance Level (SPL) 5 to SPL 7 (exit National Reporting System) or higher. An additional goal of the Advanced ESOL curriculum is student success in moving on to higher education or training or stable employment after studying at BCNC. This is a part-time position for morning ESOL classes.
Class Teaching Schedule
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 10:00am-12:30pm
Tuesday and Thursday: onsite at BCNC Quincy
Wednesday: remote via Zoom
Teaching Hours: 7.5 hours per week, per the class schedule above, and 2.5 hours assigned student asynchronous classwork. Asynchronous classwork is assigned via class learning management system and onsite class assignments. Teaching and the duties listed below create a part-time role of 20 hours per week.
Compensation: Starting at $24 / hour
