MOVEMENT BUILDING SPECIALIST

The California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC) is a non-partisan, non-profit statewide organization founded in 1996, as California reeled from the ugly aftermath of Proposition 187 and harsh federal copycats. CIPC has worked hand-in-hand with community partners across the state for over two decades to create and defend a national blueprint for pro-immigrant policy. Our notable achievements include The California Values Act, the Driver's License Bill, Health for All Kids and One California, the largest investment in legal services protection in the state.

CIPC is committed to building the capacity of partners in underserved and underrepresented regions in order to advance the immigrant rights agenda in California. This position aims to further a strong immigrant justice movement and ecosystem, as well as build across issues and movements. 

POSITION SUMMARY

This position can be based remotely anywhere in California. The Movement Building Specialist reports directly to the Organizing Manager. This Specialist plays an important role within the Organizing department, overseeing CIPC’s Regional Capacity Building Project (RCBP), a statewide initiative to build power in the regions and which is made up of nine partner coalitions and organizations throughout California; and movement-building events such as the Immigrant Day of Action. This position also implements work and strategies that involve a high level of relationship building, maintenance, and development.

Some travel throughout California will be necessary. Reasonable notice will be provided. This position is temporarily remote due to Covid-19.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee CIPC’s Regional Capacity Building Project, including biannual retreats, regular meetings, annual subgrants, and implementation of strategies and activities to support RCBP partners’;
• Oversee CIPC’s Annual Advocacy Day, Immigrant Day of Action, including developing event management strategy, process for deciding on policy priorities, etc.;
• Conduct outreach to potential new partner organizations, including organizations across sectors, building intersectional coalitions that reflect diverse interests, needs, and audiences across California;
• Engage and uplift Regional Capacity Building Project partner needs. 
• Restructure, implement, and manage CIPC’s Membership Program;
• Produce information and learning based resources relevant to movement and capacity building;
• Work with the Organizing team and other teams across the organization as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum of 4-5 years experience in effective organizing and coalition building for immigrant rights, health policy, racial justice, and/or economic justice groups and a demonstrated ability to lead and work with diverse communities;
• Excellent written and oral communication and critical/analytical thinking skills;
• Experience managing coalitions and relationships with various stakeholders;
• Ability to develop educational and outreach materials;
• Ability to drive and access a vehicle is required;
• Ability to facilitate and engage broad coalitions and experience working with diverse communities and audiences is preferred;
• Ability to conduct effective outreach and relationship organizing in a language other than English is preferred. Proficiency in non-English languages spoken by Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, African, Caribbean, and Arab communities is a plus.
• Direct experience with issues and systems impacting immigrants and/or other marginalized communities is preferred.
