Women Make Movies (WMM) is a non-profit media organization based in New York City. For more than 45 years, we have been championing the diverse world of women filmmakers and their stories. We are one of the leading advocates for “women making movies,” and we proudly support women producers and directors from the beginning, planting the seeds for a diverse and inclusive filmmaking landscape. As the world’s leading distributor of independent films by and about women, we amplify historically ignored voices and challenge the mainstream media. WMM-supported films and filmmakers have been recognized at Sundance, the Emmys, the Peabody Awards, and the Academy Awards. We are seeking a Program Coordinator for our Production Assistance Program. The program supports women filmmakers with their productions from concept through completion with fiscal sponsorship, consultations, workshops, webinars, and other technical assistance. From cutting-edge documentaries that give depth to today’s headlines to smart, stunning films that push artistic and intellectual boundaries in all genres, we work with creative, ground-breaking films which win awards at festivals around the world. Currently, more than $6 million is received on behalf of more than 300 films in the program. Films are in all stages from production through completion. The coordinator reports to the Filmmaker Services Manager and the Executive Director.  

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Day-to-day administration of the program including handling communication with new applicants and existing Production Assistance Program filmmakers
  • Processing weekly contributions and disbursements
  • Processing and filing applications & contracts
  • Generating donor and grant acknowledge letters
  • Maintaining the fiscal sponsorship database
  • End of the year reporting and dues management and assisting the finance staff with annual reporting
  • Supporting the webinars and workshop program including working with our marketing staff and partners to promote all aspects of the program, particularly through social media
  • Handling inquiries and providing information to program participants and the general public
  • Preparing content for the monthly newsletter
  • Attend and assist in the orientation of all new Production Assistance Program filmmakers
  • Maintain and update the Production Assistance Program Resource section on the website
  • Conducting research and compiling data
  • Supervising the Production Assistance intern
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications: 

  • Detail-oriented with strong follow-through
  • Ability to prioritize and problem-solve while handling multiple tasks
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • In-depth understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Technically savvy and undaunted by new software or applications
  • Ability to thrive, multitask, and meet deadlines in a quickly changing environment
  • Flexibility, professionalism, and a positive attitude. 
  • Sense of humor appreciated
  • Commitment and experience with feminist film
  • Prior experience with film production and/or fiscal sponsorship is a strong plus
  • Prior experience with foundation and government grants is also a plus

Location: This position is currently remote with the possibility of becoming hybrid in the future.  Ideal candidate will be located on the east coast.

Salary range: $40,000 - $52,000, based on experience. 

Minimum Education Required: 4-year degree or relevant experience
