Junior Domestic Violence Staff Attorney

Working in conjunction with the Senior Domestic Violence Attorney, Family Law Attorney, legal administrator and other staff members, you will provide direct support, training, case consultations, clinics, outreach and joint community education on various issues affecting survivors of domestic violence and clients of the Center For Hope And Safety.

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal representation to survivors of domestic violence in Bergen County who are clients of CHS (or referred via CHS staff), with regard to restraining orders, emergent orders/appeals, emergent custody, visitation, child support, spousal support and other legal matters.
• Provide advice and counsel to survivors of domestic violence in lieu of representation when appropriate, to empower such survivors to represent themselves or to make appropriate decisions regarding their legal cases.
• Collaborate with local partnering agencies to educate community advocates, law enforcement and court personnel regarding legal rights of and remedies available to survivors and their children.
• Participate in trainings and outreach efforts related to domestic violence and legal issues.

Requirements:

• J.D. from an accredited law school, licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey, and NJ Bar admission required
• Minimum of one year experience practicing law OR internship experience in litigating cases required
• Excellent advocacy, litigation, and leadership skills essential
• Must have your own car and valid driver’s license
• Bilingual Spanish skills a plus
• Ability to work evening hours for client appointments following general municipal/other court hours necessary
