TEAM SUMMARY

The Finance Team is currently comprised of the Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, Deputy Chief Financial & Administrative Officer, Director of Finance, the Deputy Director of Finance & Accounting, Deputy Director of Financial Planning & Analysis, 3 Staff Accountants, and Finance Coordinator. The Finance Team directs and manages the financial operations of COC three entities, Color Of Change Education Fund, a 501(C)3 nonprofit corporation; Color Of Change, a 501(c)4 nonprofit corporation; and Color Of Change PAC, a 527 political action committee.  We interface with and support all operating departments of COC, including the Boards of Directors, senior management, staff, members, and vendors. 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Color Of Change is seeking a full-time Senior Accounting Manager. The right candidate has experience with non-profit accounting and is committed to achieving results in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities. This position is an excellent opportunity to be a critical problem-solver within a growing, mission-driven organization. The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable and grants, general ledger maintenance, month-end closing, and financial reporting.

This position reports to the Deputy Director of Finance and Accounting and will supervise two Staff Accountants.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Accounting Manager will have the following duties and responsibilities:

Fundamentals & Execution

  • Review reconciliations of all bank accounts.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts monthly.
  • Review revenue and expenses for compliance.
  • Manage accounting software financial reports.
  • Assist with processing payroll.
  • Prepare and record a journal entry for payroll in Intacct.
  • Record retirement plan (401k and 457b) contributions.
  • Reconcile Payroll month
  • Adjust vacation accrual balance quarterly in Intacct.
  • Review reconciliations and verify balance sheet accounts for month-end closing.
  • Review and reconcile intercompany (Due To/Due From) accounts.
  • Interact with Campaign Finance consultant to prepare FEC reports.
  • Conduct depreciation and amortization of fixed assets.
  • Provide audit support.
  • Additional duties and support as required.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Directly supervise two Staff Accountants.
  • Act with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills - both verbal and written.
  • Use effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Apply strong judgment & critical thinking skills consistently.
  • Utilize leadership skills by assisting Finance team members and COC colleagues in learning new systems, processes, and general Finance/Accounting principles.

QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior Accounting Manager will be a hands-on professional, with 5 to 7 years of experience managing accounting operations in a Nonprofit environment. They will have a strong customer service mentality and a passion for racial and social justice. Skills required include general ledger accounting; the ability to keep accounts for separate companies in one accounting system, thorough understanding of Intacct and GAAP as it pertains to nonprofit fund accounting.  

We’d love to see you bring in some, or all of the below strengths, experiences, or skills:

  • At least 5 years of Accounting or Bookkeeping experience including processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, preparing journal entries and financial reporting
  • Direct supervisory experience and leadership/coaching skills
  • Experience using Intacct automated accounting system
  • Thorough knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP)
  • Knowledge of Nonprofit Accounting and Bookkeeping standards on both the revenue and expense side

COMPENSATION

The salary for the Senior Accounting Manager is $85,000/year. This is a full-time exempt position. Color Of Change also offers a competitive benefits package
