Hope House DC was founded to serve the needs of incarcerated fathers who have been taken to prisons far from the District, and has three primary purposes:

1. To create programs that strengthen ties between fathers who are incarcerated in prisons far from home and their families;

2. To advocate for and raise the level of awareness of the general public about inmates and their families and their concerns;

3. To create programs for the children and families of D.C. prisoner

Hope House DC offers programs to dads in prison and their families aimed at decreasing recidivism and keeping incarcerated men connected to the community. Not surprisingly, studies have shown that prisoners who remain in contact with their families while incarcerated have a lower recidivism rate.

The best candidate for the Executive Director position should have experience in organizational administration as well as experience with the criminal justice system (prefer, if possible, a formerly incarcerated person or a person who has worked with those who are or have been incarcerated).

Hope House Executive Director’s responsibilities:

1. Manage and coordinate all Hope House activities and programs, including working with community groups, and the Bureau of Prisons and the management of the partnering prison facilities, to support and grow such Hope House Programs as the Executive Director and the Board of Hope House shall decide to support. 

2. Along with the Hope House bookkeeper manage Hope House finances, including managing the Hope House accounts and books, preparing for and overseeing the annual audit, and other fiscal tasks.

3. Along with the Hope House fundraiser/grant writer lead efforts to raise support funds for Hope House initiatives and support, including developing and maintaining relations with major donors and grant providers, with the support of the Board of Hope House..

4. Supervise the work of the Hope House staff, including currently a part-time bookkeeper and a part-time fundraiser/grant writer, and volunteers assisting with the Hope House programs.

5.  Engage in periodic programmatic and strategic planning, develop new programs and ways to make existing programs more effective, inviting input from the beneficiaries of Hope House’s programs, the prison community, community groups, the Hope House Board, and others whose input could assist and improve the effectiveness of Hope House’s programs.

6. Report and be responsible to the Board of Hope House on a regular basis, and seek the Board’s assistance in programmatic and strategic planning, fund raising, and efforts to ensure the Hope House programs are successful.

7.  Other duties as assigned by Board.

Salary: $80,000 - $90,000 depending upon experience
