ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Threshold is seeking an experienced development professional to support our development operations through an exciting phase of growth. 

The Development Lead is responsible for supporting efforts to secure our nonprofit organization's operating and project revenue. The responsibilities are diverse and require exceptional organizational, research, and time management skills. While this is not a frontline fundraising position, it is vital to the success of the overall development program. 

This is a multifaceted role that requires an experienced and organized development professional. We are seeking someone with a broad skill set who is excited by the prospect of working on various development projects, ranging from back-end development operations to grants management and prospect research. 

Threshold is independent and nonprofit. Its funding model is philanthropic, based primarily on individual donations and foundation grants. Our annual fundraising goal is $850,000+.

This individual's role will be to This mid-to-mid-senior-level support position reports directly to the executive director. They will work with all other team members and, to a lesser extent, the board of directors. 

ABOUT YOU

You are an experienced development professional who enjoys being the “glue” in a growing development operation: you can project manage a campaign, enter accurate gift data, and seek out prospective funders with your thorough and efficient research skills. You are adept at finding people, organizations, and opportunities and determining if a prospective individual or organizational funder is the right “fit” for our work. Your fundraising experience and broad skill set make you indispensable whether planning our year-end campaign, preparing a grant application, or prioritizing major gift prospects. You know the ins and outs of every stage of the donor relationship and are excited about supporting frontline fundraisers to ensure every stage is done with exceptional care and quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Drive Annual Giving efforts by project managing the year-end and mid-year campaigns
  • Foundation/grant research and management 
  • Identify and prioritize foundation prospects and grant opportunities through comprehensive yet efficient research 
  • Identify funding websites, nonprofit databases, and directories where funders might discover us and add, update, and maintain our organizational profiles 
  • Maintain grants calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, gift acknowledgments, reports, and other stewardship activities
  • Maintain up-to-date records of grant applications in the organization’s database
  • Lead and project manage tracking and reporting process for all grants received and for funder reports
  • Individual prospect research and management
  • Identify and prioritize major gift prospects within our donor base by reviewing donor giving histories, engagement, and relationship and conducting thorough research
  • Identify and prioritize major gift prospects outside our organization through efficient, comprehensive research
  • Individual and foundation prospect outreach coordination 
  • Coordinate outreach and portfolio management with executive director and board members
  • Draft concise and compelling donor outreach communications
  • Organize and update prospective funder materials
  • Package and send outreach emails 
  • Track responses and coordinate follow-up 
  • Donor and gift entry acknowledgment
  • Enter all donor and gift data and immediately prepare and send gift acknowledgments and/or receipts
  • Prepare and send annual year-end gift summaries before January 31
  • Ensure gift processing steps are documented and current
  • Regularly assess processes and recommend changes if needed 
  • Donor stewardship
  • Own donor recognition and stewardship, develop and regularly assess donor touchpoints, and suggest improvements or revisions 
  • Work closely with the executive director to develop, track, and execute moves management for major gift prospects
  • Donor lists and reports
  • Segment donor lists in CRM and tag them in MailChimp
  • Prepare accurate donor lists for the website or other publications 
  • Work with outside bookkeeping and accounting team members to complete monthly gift reporting and reconciliation, updating gift records in our CRM as needed 
  • Own the processes for gift-giving: ensure a smooth user experience for donors and accurate, comprehensive data collection around donation transactions. Identify opportunities and potential solutions for more efficient and effective processes  
  • Project manage and/or assist with preparing grant/funder reports

SKILLS + EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, especially in development operations, prospect research, database management, and grant preparation
  • Thorough understanding of nonprofit fundraising best practices, especially gift vehicles, data entry, prospect research, donor privacy, and confidentiality
  • 3+ years experience working with a CRM, including data entry,  creating reports, and importing and exporting data
  • Fluency with GSuite, especially Google Docs and Sheets, and Asana 
  • Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to serve as an editor and a final proofreader on grant applications and donor materials 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of all stages of the fundraising process: identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven project management skills
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate successfully with individuals and teams at all levels

STRUCTURE + LOCATION

This is a remote, part-time, hourly, limited-term, independent contractor (1099) position with a flexible schedule. Hours will be between 20 and 25 hours per week.

Depending on need, performance, and available funding, there is potential for extension or permanency.


COMPENSATION

The pay range for this position is $37 to $42/hour based on experience.
