Position Overview: The Marketing and Communications Director oversees all aspects of the Center’s marketing, communications, and earned media/PR efforts, with support for artistic programming, project management, and fundraising as it relates to the aforementioned categories. The position reports to the Executive Director. The Marketing and Communications Director’s directive is to identify, segment, engage, and enlarge Center audiences through digital, event, print and earned efforts. It is the expectation of the Center that the Marketing and Communications Director, in close collaboration with the Executive Director, will take a lead role in crafting the Center’s strategic plan, aligning internal and external stakeholders, and identifying opportunities for growth within the organization. 

This is a banner year for the Center, with programming, original content, and media coverage in spades. The Marketing and Communications Director will be primarily responsible for strategic communication of that content in order to reach the widest possible audience.

Responsibilities:

This position sits within a small, entrepreneurial team. The ideal candidate may not have the experience and technical skills to accomplish all of the responsibilities below, but will be willing to learn as they go – and to bring in experts when needed.

  • Ownership of Center’s brand identity, including voice, written style, and alignment with internal and external stakeholders
  • Primary relationship management with external stakeholders including PR firm, photographers, graphic designers, and UX developers
  • Research and discovery / global competitive analysis and niche market analysis
  • Development and implementation of external campaign/s and initiatives for Center programming  (e.g. Come, Follow Me (Art Companion), Virtual Classes, or The Residency)
  • Project planning, collaboration, and execution
  • Development of marketing strategy, including audience segmentation 
  • List management: audience research & analysis, database management and cultivation, direct/ paid marketing, and events
  • Influencer and partner relationship/s, including “cold-calling” or pitching services, products and programs via events, email, or social platforms
  • Ownership of digital and social platforms including website SEO, basic front-end website design and development, social content creation/design/development, newsletter marketing (Mailchimp), 
  • Social media management & strategy (Meta/ FB, Instagram, YouTube, X, LinkedIn) with goal to grow followers and increase engagement
  • Newsletter marketing (MailChimp) with goal to grow subscriber base
  • Social engagement and listening (e.g. respond to ongoing email inquiries,DMs, and content threads from relevant streams and/or partners)
  • Audience segmentation, discovery and analysis (database management and analysis of all platform lists)
  • Leadership of earned media/ PR efforts including drafting of press releases, leading sourcing calls, relationship management & follow-up with key contacts in target markets, outlets, and industries, media kit development and distribution, and media training.
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Dimensions/Special Requirements: This position is fully remote. Some travel is required for Center programming and special events. Candidates must be available October 8-14, 2024 for the Artists Residency in New York City.

Qualifications: Applicants should be conversant in and sympathetic to the arts culture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Qualifications that will strengthen an application include:

  • Understanding of and passion for the Center’s mission
  • 5+ years of work experience in related field
  • Working knowledge of communications platforms including Squarespace, Hootsuite, Mailchimp, G-Suite, GoFundMe, and Slack
  • Ability to develop high-level strategy and execute necessary deliverables
  • Basic design skills and capabilities for content creation, particularly for social media
  • An advanced degree in a relevant field
  • Communications experience in an arts-related or non-profit institution
  • Communication skills, both writing and speaking
  • Relationships with the Latter-day Saint arts and scholarship community
  • A willingness to travel on occasion.
