DESCRIPTION

The Center for Effective Public Policy (CEPP) envisions a world where justice means strong, healthy communities for everyone. For the last 40 years, we have worked collaboratively with criminal justice system professionals and their partners to improve their systems and facilitate equitable, systemic, and sustainable change.

CEPP’s work focuses on reimagining justice solutions and reducing reliance on incarceration; strengthening communities and improving outcomes for people on community supervision; addressing populations with unique needs, such as justice-involved women and youth; and advancing system change through training, resources, and team building. Our team members have varied experiences and a deep understanding of justice-related issues. Our office is in the greater D.C. area, but nearly all staff members work from their home-based locations around the country.

CEPP seeks to add a full-time (remotely located) Program Associate to our team. The Program Associate will report to a Project Director and will serve as a Project Manager to an initiative delivering technical assistance and training to local and state jurisdictions seeking to advance their pretrial systems–and the outcomes they generate–by implementing policies and practices that are grounded in research and guided by community input.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will support CEPP’s Advancing Pretrial Policy and Research (APPR) initiative. Specifically, the Program Associate will:

  • Collaborate with the project management team on a regular basis to ensure the successful advancement of project activities.
  • Create, implement, and sustain processes and protocols for effective project management.
  • Support the project by participating in and documenting ongoing project meetings and workgroup sessions.
  • Develop and edit progress reports and other project reports.
  • Assist with the management of project information, performance measures, and data.
  • Assist with the scheduling, planning, and execution of project meetings and training events; and develop meeting and training materials (including serving periodically as the producer of virtual training events).
  • Contribute to, proofread, and edit written products; and conduct substantive research.

QUALIFICATIONS

  •  Bachelor’s degree required; a degree in criminal justice or a similar area of expertise strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of three years of experience serving as a Program Assistant/Associate, or similar position, with experience in criminal justice preferred.
  • Familiarity with research, policy, and practice related to pretrial justice helpful.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to flourish and work independently in a virtual work environment.
  • Highly collegial attitude and desire to work in a collaborative environment.
  • Enthusiasm for taking on new and additional opportunities and challenges in support of the project’s goals.
