The WI Organizer will lead work in target Congressional Districts, ranging from candidate research and endorsement recommendations, to managing organizational relationships, and local coalition building. They are responsible for developing a local governance board and prospects for a statewide governance board by developing and maintaining strong relationships and partnerships with individuals and organizations that are aligned with the WFP vision.


This role will also be responsible for recruiting, training, managing, and building relationships with volunteers, helping to win progressive victories across the state, and advising or working on behalf of candidates in their turf. They will lead recruitment and outreach to activists and volunteers in support of building a membership base, and always be scouting for potential candidates and campaign staff. This Organizer position is accountable to and supervised by the Wisconsin State Director in regular meetings and written reports, and will also complete additional tasks as delegated by the Wisconsin State Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Display commitment to progressive politics by fighting for social, economic, and racial justice by building power for working people in Wisconsin.
  • Maintain a schedule of relational meetings with local affiliates and partners, as well as local elected officials and their staff, keeping WFP partners informed and updated, generating joint projects, and offering support as available in an effort to deepen WFP’s key relationships.
  • Develop relationships, lead the endorsement process, and recruit candidates at the local and state legislative level in target Congressional Districts.
  • Execute a strong electoral program on behalf of endorsed candidates and initiatives/campaigns that elects WFP candidates to office and builds the political profile of the party.
  • Develop membership and escalate activists to varying levels of leadership in the party by training them and helping build their commitment to the party.
  • Plan and execute organizing tactics such as regular membership meetings, trainings, mass meetings, canvasses, phonebanks, text parties, and house parties.
  • Maintain a schedule of relational meetings with current and potential members, constituency/community leaders, candidates, and other stakeholders.
  • Organize and lead local governance tables composed of local organizations, elected, activists and labor leaders that lead the local agenda and endorsement process.
  • Maintain clean and accurate data in voter and CRM databases.
  • Assist in organizational decision making by understanding partner’s priorities, assessing local landscapes, and delivering strong political judgment.
  • Cultivate a diverse, resilient, and growing volunteer community.
  • Help set statewide priorities such as help build the supporter/ member base of the party, including but not limited to setting recruitment and development goals for supporters, members, and leaders and recruiting and developing a governance team and structure to lead and make decisions for WFP in Wisconsin.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 2-3 years or more of previous organizing or relevant experience working in communities of color.
  • Must have a license and car or be willing to purchase or lease a car.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including particularly strong listening skills.
  • Able to work independently and hold yourself accountable in a remote, entrepreneurial work environment.
  • Proficiency using spreadsheets and constituent relationship management systems.
  • Experience with Action Network, VAN, and Votivate all a big plus.
  • Pre-existing commitment to progressive politics or community issues.
  • Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers and supporters across all demographics and backgrounds--especially race, gender and class.
  • General technological aptitude including comfort with Google Workspace, Social Media, and a willingness to dig in and learn to use digital organizing tools such as CRM software and databases, online event management platforms, video conferencing tools.
  • Relationships with current and potential local community members, local leaders, elected officials, and WFP supporters.
  • Ability to work irregular and varied hours including nights, weekends, and occasional holidays, change gears quickly in a campaign environment, and work independently with guidance as well as within a team.
  • Ability to engage in in-person organizing activities as needed.

Compensación

  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $53,000 to $65,000. The final salary will be determined based on an internal equitable scale that takes into consideration years of experience, geographic location, and final job description.   • Location: The position is full-time and remotely based anywhere in Wisconsin during the current health crisis. 
  • Schedule: Full Time, Permanent 
  • Union Affiliation: WFP is a unionized workplace. This is a nonmanagerial role eligible to join WFP's staff bargaining unit after six months of employment. WFP's union employees are represented by the New York Metropolitan Area Joint Board, Workers United union.
