Description
The purpose of this position is to direct the functions and operations of Leadership Development Programming, Volunteer Management, and Awards Programming for ASHA’s Association Governance Operations Team. Further, the incumbent directs special projects and new initiatives related to leadership development, volunteers, and awards and makes recommendations for enhancements to programming in these areas. The incumbent may also oversee projects assigned by the Senior Director, Association Governance Operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all leadership development, awards programming and volunteer programs administered by the Association Governance Operations Team.
- Advise and coordinate work groups of professional and support staff in the execution of leadership development, awards and volunteer programs.
- Conceive, implement, and evaluate new initiatives and project plans to strengthen, facilitate and integrate leadership development, awards and volunteer management throughout the association.
- Conduct ongoing needs assessment and establish strategies for addressing identified gaps.
- Serve as ex officio to appointed committees and groups, including, but not limited to the Committee on Honors.
- Hire, orient, coach and evaluate staff including the Program
- Manager, Association Governance Operations.
Qualifications
Knowledge Typically Acquired Through
- 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in administration and management; 4-5 years of work experience in a professional association
- Minimum bachelor's degree preferred in Leadership Development/Organizational Development
- Certified Association Executive (CAE) preferred.
Skills
- Supervisory experience
- Excellent writing, proofreading and editing skills
- Familiarity with software programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Microsoft Office, netForum, LineUp) and databases
- Knowledge about Leadership Development programming
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple complex projects and tasks.
- Proven ability to independently identify and manage sensitive and confidential matters.
- Proven ability to lead projects and work teams to accomplish projects and to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills for interacting with members, volunteer leadership and outside groups/individuals in formal (e.g., contractual) and informal (e.g., mail/e-mail correspondence) contexts.
- Well-developed interpersonal and team-facilitation skills
- Demonstrated commitment to creating and maintaining a high performing team.
