Staff Attorney

The Center is seeking a staff attorney with a focus on environmental and/or energy law who will work collaboratively with the Executive Director in identifying legal issues and cases that will advance important public interests, in conducting legal research and investigation, and in taking an active role in litigating cases from their inception through any appeals. In addition, the staff attorney will support the Center’s fundraising efforts.

The successful candidate must (1) be committed to pursuing the Center’s mission;

(2) have a Juris Doctorate with no disciplinary record; and (3) be a member in

good standing of the state bar where he/she is admitted to practice law.

Qualities that will be considered include:

Significant litigation experience, with some appellate experience preferred (at least four years of litigation experience preferred; attorney is expected to handle cases independently but candidates with fewer years of experience are welcome to apply as long as they meet this functional requirement);

At least 3 years of substantive experience in environmental and/or energy law;

Ability to work well in a team;

Excellent advocacy skills, including legal research, oral, written, and analytical skills;

Initiative, persistence, energy, and creativity;

Excellent organization skills;

Ability to work with clients of diverse backgrounds, cultures and orientations;

Capacity and willingness to communicate and work effectively with external audiences and to function as an effective spokesperson for clients and for the Center; and

Ability and willingness to participate in the Center’s fundraising efforts.

Experience with publicity, social media, and/or website management is a plus.

The staff attorney may work remotely from anywhere within Arizona, or may work from the Center’s office in Phoenix.  Salary range of $90,000 to $120,000, depending on experience.  Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, ability to participate in 403(b) also offered.
