About the Long Island Financial Empowerment Center (LIFEC) powered by Choice for All
The Long Island Financial Empowerment Center (LIFEC) supports individuals and families in building financial stability and long-term economic opportunity. Through free financial coaching and counseling, community education workshops, advocacy, and culturally responsive support, LIFEC helps community members reduce debt, improve credit, increase savings, and access pathways to financial independence. LIFEC operates community-based sites in Roosevelt and Bridgehampton, providing residents across Long Island with compassionate, personalized financial empowerment services rooted in trust, empathy, and dignity. This approach recognizes both the practical and emotional realities of money management, helping individuals and families address the social roots of financial stress while building lasting financial wellness.
Position Overview
The Financial Advocate works directly with individuals and families to strengthen their financial well-being. This role includes financial coaching, client support, and connecting participants to helpful resources. Financial Advocates help clients develop practical financial goals, improve credit, manage debt, and build sustainable financial habits.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Counseling & Client Support
- Conduct intake meetings with clients seeking financial assistance
- Provide one-on-one financial coaching and goal setting
- Assist clients with budgeting, credit improvement, debt reduction, and savings strategies
- Support clients in creating and following personalized financial action plans
- Maintain regular follow-up to track progress toward financial goals
Case Management & Resource Navigation
- Connect clients with relevant community services such as workforce programs, housing resources, education and training opportunities, and public benefits
Documentation & Data Tracking
- Maintain accurate client records and service documentation
- Enter service data into program databases or tracking systems
- Ensure all records follow program and organizational guidelines
Community Engagement
- Respond to community inquiries about financial empowerment services
- Support financial education workshops or outreach events when needed
- Help strengthen partnerships with local organizations and community groups
Qualifications
Education or experience is welcomed. Candidates may qualify through education, work experience, or a combination of both.
Helpful backgrounds include:
- Financial counseling or financial coaching
- Social services or case management
- Community outreach or nonprofit work
- Personal finance education or banking experience
Key skills include:
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work with diverse communities
- Basic knowledge of budgeting, credit, and financial planning
- Strong organization and documentation skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
Work Environment
This is a part-time position (15–20 hours per week) supporting financial empowerment services in Roosevelt and/or Bridgehampton (dependent upon location of financial advocate with transportation/lodging covered by organization for monthly site visit). Some evening or community outreach hours may occasionally be required.
