Girls on the Rise is an empowerment program for girls ages 8-18 and their families and is one of the programs of Christ Child Society of Washington. Our families reside in the community of Washington Highlands in Southeast’s Ward 8, which is one of the most under-resourced communities in the city. The program is year round and includes after-school, summer camp and family support programs. With a combination of social emotional learning, academic instruction, family support, and recreational and wellness activities, Girls on the Rise is transforming lives and giving the girls the vision to plan and the tools to build their bright futures.
PURPOSE: Girls on the Rise is seeking a Program Coordinator/Social Worker to develop, plan and implement social/emotional learning programs for girls in our after-school and summer camp programs. This position reports directly to the Girls on the Rise Program Director and coordinates with all social work, education, and youth development program staff. This position will play a crucial role in designing social and emotional support for children, as well as coaching to prepare for college/career. This role requires a strategic and creative individual who can construct program-specific activities as well as community-based academic support.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Work in our Girls on the Rise Empowerment Programs including, after-school, summer camp and family support programs serving girls ages 6 – 18 in Ward 8
· Plan for, manage, and provide programs for participants and their families,
· Work with Program Assistant to track, gather, and evaluate data to monitor children’s growth and progress.
· Establish and maintain community-based partnerships,
· Work directly with youth and their families, and
· Implement programs and individual evaluations and document impact.
Qualifications:
· Three – five years’ experience working in community-based settings with at-risk populations
· Bachelor’s Degree in social work required; Master’s Degree in social work preferred
· Ability to form strong relationships with children, families, and volunteers
· Willingness to take ownership of long-term projects; ability to work both independently and collaboratively
· Skilled at large group facilitation with children and adults
· Experience working with children and families who come from under-resourced, urban backgrounds
· Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice for children and families
