Position Summary

The Data and Knowledge Manager will help Thousand Currents better use the data and information we collect, by strengthening our knowledge management systems and practices, improving accessibility through creative data visualizations and other packaging, and assisting with data and evidence analysis for the purposes of learning,decision making, fundraising and communications. 

The Manager will help teams  better utilize qualitative and quantitative data and information for learning, decision-making, fundraising and communications, in alignment with our values and commitments to social movements.

Key Roles and Functions

Data Analysis and Visualization

  • Contribute to analyses of data and information (quantitative and qualitative) in line with our organizational Learning and Accountability system, synthesize findings for internal and external audiences, and facilitate accessibility through data visualization 
  • Assist with the analysis of grantmaking data and partner reporting information
  • Facilitate use of information and data for institutional donor proposals and reporting
  • Lead on the analysis and presentation of data and information collected to assess the effectiveness of the Center for Transforming Philanthropy
  • Lead on the design and presentation of data and information that support evidence-based learning and decision-making as outlined in the organizational learning agenda, strategic direction and annual plans
  • Collaborate on special projects to improve data collection, management, accessibility and sharing

Knowledge Management

  • Develop and lead on the implementation of a feminist knowledge management strategy and approach to ensure experiences, data, findings, lessons learnt and good practices are documented, stored and shared with multiple stakeholders internally and externally
  • Utilizing participatory and inclusive approaches, identify and curate content that reflects Thousand Currents experiences and lessons learnt, and can be shared internally and externally
  • Promote feminist knowledge capturing and sharing within Thousand Currents, including identification and documentation of good practices, and cross-organizational knowledge sharing
  • Identify and address impediments to sharing information and the flow of knowledge
  • Work with teams to improve the accessibility of knowledge, including the use of online storage and platforms

Learning and Accountability System and Practices

  • Help coordinate the implementation of our new organizational Learning and Accountability (L+A) system
  • Support integration of learning and accountability practices into the work of teams and the whole organization (design, planning, implementation, review/reflection)
  • Assist with the design, coordination and/or implementation of organization/team learning events and reflection spaces

Participate in organization-wide activities, cross-program partnerships and administrative efficiency

  • Show up fully for organizational activities, including staff meetings, retreats, and trainings; 
  • Pitch in when needed for organization-wide activities, such as the Thousand Currents Academy, annual events, fundraising drives, partner visits etc.; 
  • Manage your own regular administration, including timely submission of receipts, reimbursement requests, scheduling, travel planning, filing HR paperwork etc.
  • Model Thousand Currents’ values, contributing to a positive organizational culture 
  • Engage as a member of the CLIMA L+E community

Qualifications and Experience

  • Familiar with data and knowledge management systems, particularly feminist and/or Indigenous-rooted theories and approaches, and is able to integrate this knowledge across the work
  • Experience with evidence synthesis, data analysis, and  monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) methods and approaches, including designing, planning and implementing MEL systems
  • Experience improving accessibility and use of data and information systems, particularly within global organizations
  • Experience with presenting data and information in visual forms
  • Able to analyze quantitative and qualitative data as well as identify potential uses for analysis
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools, such as Tableau, Salesforce, Dedoose
  • Strong project management skills and experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to distill and explain complex concepts.
  • Experience working collaboratively with others across an organization.
  • Flexibility and creativity. 
  • A personal style characterized by humility, self-awareness, accessibility, intellectual curiosity and a genuine team orientation; must be a self-starter who is largely self-sufficient in terms of administrative support.
  • Experience partnering with social justice and movement formations, especially in the Global South. Strong preference for people who come from the communities we partner with across Latin America, Africa, and Asia.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands of this position are light with the expectation that the staff person can exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree.  Physical demands are in excess of those of sedentary work. The position requires frequent computer use at a workstation. As Thousand Currents staff work in a number of locations and come together for meetings on occasion, all staff must be able to travel by car and plane to meetings at locations nationally and internationally. Availability to travel and maintenance of a valid passport is required. Thousand Currents will make reasonable accommodations in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. This job description and its physical requirements will be reviewed periodically as duties and responsibilities change with business necessity.  Essential and marginal job functions are subject to modification.

Thousand Currents practices a non-negotiable salary policy to foster pay equity. The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary for this role is $97,000 with a generous benefits package, including:

●     100% premium paid health, dental, and vision insurance coverage for you and your family (if applicable).
