Overview

The Korean Center, Inc. (KCI) seeks a dynamic and skilled executive director (ED) with a passion for the mission of KCI and ability to effectively lead a small, highly dedicated team. KCI is a community-based, nonprofit organization in the heart of San Francisco, established in 1974. In its 45+ years of service, KCI has evolved from its original mission of assisting newly arrived Korean immigrants to its current vision of a vibrant, engaged community where Korean culture and heritage are explored, celebrated, and preserved for future generations. Our mission is to create spaces for exploring Korean culture and heritage, bridging communities and generations, and collaborating to address Korean American community needs in the Bay Area. The Center offers a year-round Korean language program (King Sejong Institute), senior and youth programs, and cultural and educational programs -- including classes, workshops and events, most notably the annual Bay Area Chuseok [Korean harvest] Festival. KCI has 3-5 full-time staff, 4-6 part-time teachers, numerous dedicated volunteers, and a diverse board and advisors.

Position Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will have overall strategic, financial, programmatic and administrative responsibility for all aspects of the organization. The ED is expected to quickly develop a deep knowledge of KCI’s core programs, operations, financial objectives, and communication channels, as well as an effective working relationship with the small but dynamic KCI team. The ED will work with a sense of urgency in executing current and developing new and diverse fundraising strategies that meet organizational goals. The successful candidate will be a strong collaborator and communicator, able to work effectively with the Board and staff to ensure well-informed and timely decisions are made and goals achieved. The ideal ED will also be highly diplomatic and culturally sensitive, able to navigate the multiple audiences KCI serves in the community. The ED position offers a great opportunity for someone wanting to make a difference in the Korean American community while leveraging the broad & exploding interest in Korean culture.
