About the Position:

Under the general supervision of the Executive Director and Program Director, the Program Manager will support the development and implementation of ActiveSGV projects, programs, and services aimed at advancing the organization's mission. ActiveSGV seeks a highly motivated Program Manager to join the Climate team and manage the Trusted Messenger Network outreach program. 

Funded by the state Office of Community Partnerships and Strategic Communications (OCPSC) housed within the state Office of Planning and Research (OPR), the Trusted Messenger Network program focuses on conducting highly interactive outreach and engagement to encourage San Gabriel Valley residents to take actions related to OCPSC campaigns. Key campaigns include extreme heat, water conservation, Individual Tax Identification Number (ITIN), and others. 

The Program Manager will be expected to work collaboratively with a program team to manage outreach activities, including but not limited to door-to-door canvassing, tabling at events or highly trafficked areas, phone banking, and hosting training, workshops, and meetings. The Program Manager will also manage promotional activities, including social media posts, newsletters, flyers, and mailers. The Program Manager will coordinate with other community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and local governments to deploy activities in target geographic areas to reach target populations in the San Gabriel Valley. The Program Manager will also fulfill all reporting and invoicing requirements and participate in required meetings. 

Individuals must be organized and prioritize workload; have experience in organizing and coordinating events; be self-motivated, able, and genuinely interested in working respectfully with people of all cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; work effectively in both independent and team environments; possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact positively and effectively with colleagues, county and elected officials, corporate and philanthropic representatives, and community members; be comfortable working in a results-oriented work environment; and be passionate about the organization's focus area.  

Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration

  • Provide program management by ensuring all program components are moving forward, critical deadlines are met, and work products are coordinated among the program team.
  • Accurately understand the specific needs of the people we are trying to help and ensure that our program is designed and positioned to meet those needs, and that success metrics accurately inform our assessment of the program's impact.
  • Build comprehensive and agile program management plans that accurately determine resource requirements, timelines, milestones, contingencies, and stakeholder involvement/engagement.
  • Monitor program progress continuously at each stage, making adjustments and adaptations as needed, and documenting progress and challenges.
  • Communicate clearly and routinely with key stakeholders about program design and progress, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and transparency.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to leverage their knowledge and expertise to ensure program success.
  • Provide input and expertise on improving engagement efforts.
  • Collect and track quantitative and qualitative data, and complete monthly reports on program outcomes and impacts.

Operations & Budget Tracking 

  • Ensure that ActiveSGV receives program funding as scheduled and initiates the accounts payable process by receiving invoices and submitting documentation to the Operations and Admin team.
  • Identify initiative outputs and metrics, ensure they are measurable and tracked, and adjust strategies to improve program performance.
  • Identify necessary assets (e.g., marketing materials, documentation, etc.) and execute their development to contact agencies and other organizational partners about programs. 
  • Support fundraising efforts for ActiveSGV initiatives by acting as a subject matter expert, persuasively explaining the vision and goals of ActiveSGV’s initiatives to prospective donors, and supporting the grant writing process as necessary.
  • Supervise team members in outreach and organizing activities.

Community Engagement

  • Conduct community engagement and outreach activities to reach program deliverables.
  • Empower community constituents to participate in the program.
  • Collect, process, analyze, and visualize data from community input. 
  • Assist in planning and executing community activities and events related to ActiveSGV’s initiatives.

This position will offer a hybrid of remote and in-person work from our offices at the Jeff Seymour Family Center in El Monte and in the field. ActiveSGV strives to meet the community where they feel comfortable and conducts outreach in places and spaces that are convenient for the public at accessible times, including weeknights and weekends. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • At least five (5) years of experience working on community-based programming and conducting project management. 
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited university in social science, public policy, public health, urban planning and design, business administration, or a similar field is preferred.
  • Confident knowledge concerning issues, plans, and programs related to environmental justice, climate justice, and/or public health.
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills; experience in effectively communicating essential information, including presentations to community members, staff, and senior management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize, negotiate, and multi-task while maintaining vigilant attention to detail.
  • Ability to be creative, flexible, and responsive.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness and good judgment.
  • Demonstrated support for social justice and racial equity.
  • Physical Requirements: Must lift up to 25 pounds and perform standard office work, including the use of a computer. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, and stand for intermittently long periods.

Salary and Benefits

This is an exempt position with an annual salary of $61,693 - $97,816. The appropriate salary level is determined by reviewing relevant experience and qualifications and how they compare to stages within the range. Compensation includes a generous benefits package, including healthcare and dental insurance, 16 holidays, paid sick time, a professional development stipend, a wellness stipend, a 32-hour work week, and a 403b retirement plan.
