    Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.

    Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most. 

    Make the Road States (MRstates), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations that serve to uplift the voices of working-class immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color.

    Current Opening:

    The Northern Nevada Immigrant Justice Organizer will be responsible for recruiting and engaging members by developing them into lead on campaigns around the local, state, and federal issues.

    The primary focus of this position will be organizing low-income and immigrant community members to effectively engage in collective action in order to empower members to make progress on fights including, but not limited to, housing, immigrant rights, immigration reform, wages, working conditions, healthcare, reproductive rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, and dismantling systemic racism.

    Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

    Community Organizing and Campaign Building

    • Responsible for leading basebuilding efforts and recruiting new members for MRNV/MRA.
    • Develop short term and long term organizing strategies, campaign strategies, and goals for the immigration campaign with active support and input from the lead organizer and organizing director.
    • Maintain positive and professional interpersonal relationships with internal and external partnerships on behalf of MRNV/MRA.
    • Hold weekly check-in meetings with the Lead Organizer to ensure goals and metrics are being met.
    • Manage, track, analyze, and stay informed about what is happening at the local, state, and federal level related to the immigration campaign to inform campaign planning.
    • Plan and coordinate outreach and organizing committee and general member meetings to promote civic participation and leadership development of members and allies.
    • Develop organizing materials including fact sheets, one-pagers, meeting agendas, event memos, etc.
    • Develop and maintain an individual work plan, campaign plan, and organizational goals with active support and input from the lead organizer and organizing director.
    • Record and report metrics as part of individual work plan, campaign plans, and organizational goals, ensuring that metrics are kept up to date.
    • Coordinate and participate in phonebanking, canvassing, and fieldwork with base organizers.
    • The organizer will be required to support grant deliverables as needed.
    • Able to drive for work to attend community events and other field activities using their personal vehicle.
    • Use personal phones for work-related communication and activities, including texting and phone banking.
    • Work occasional weekends and evenings as needed to support campaign activities, community events, and organizational meetings.
    • Attend events not directly related to the immigration campaign to support the broader work of the organization.
    • Work in the office as required; this is not a work-from-home position, but occasional office presence is necessary.
    • Follow up with hot leads within the designated time as part of Make the Road Nevada's funnel system.

    Member Organizing and Leadership Development

    • Recruit and mobilize local community members to become members of MRNV/MRA and be actively involved in the immigration campaign, including attending and participating in meetings, actions, and events.
    • Collaborate with the broader organizing team to plan and run general membership meetings and committee meetings.
    • Help create and conduct trainings, presentations, and workshops centered around the priorities of the organization under MRNV/MRA.
    • Organize and develop informed, confident member-leaders who themselves can recruit, mobilize, and organize others and help lead the housing campaign work.
    • Organize members to fill volunteer roles in the immigration committee meeting and put them on a pathway to the Make the Road Nevada leadership ladder.

    Foster and Manage Public Relationships:

    • Represent, and advocate on behalf of MRNV/MRA members in coalition spaces as well with elected officials, and government agencies
    • Support the civic engagement department on meetings to ensure member voices are included with elected officials and candidates
    • Speak about Make the Road work and campaigns in public spaces and to the press and train members to do the same

    Requirements:

    • Eligible to work in the United States. 
    • Required to be fully vaccinated with a FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior to the first day of employment.
    • Minimum of 1-year experience organizing or running a program
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, in particular immigration justice. 
    • Ability to work regular evenings and occasional weekends
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish
    • Dedication to improving the quality of life for immigrants and working-class Nevadans and creating a pipeline of leaders from our local community
    • Proven ability to manage complex relationships and build consensus among diverse interests
    • Microsoft Office or Google Drive Suite Competency
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn database and communication platforms
    • Excellent written and verbal communication

    Salary and Benefits:

    MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $51,591 to $61,809.
