Position Concept

JA Finance Park is an innovation in experiential education designed to prepare students for life and work in the real world. Middle and High School students learn and practice how to make informed decisions for lifelong success by aligning the realities of life – and personal choices – with financial stability; connecting education and career decisions with income expectations, and experiencing first-hand what it takes to make it in the JA Finance Park budgeting simulation.

JA Finance Park Montgomery County is one of three JA Capstone facilities in the Greater Washington Region. This location typically serves 12,000 students and engages 2,000 adult volunteers each year to guide students through the budgeting simulation. The Manager, Finance Park Montgomery County is the site lead for this location. This position oversees the facility-based operations, the execution of the JA Finance Park capstone experience, and serves as the onsite lead for facility safety and security for all constituents, including staff, students, volunteers, teachers, and guests.

The Manager, Finance Park Montgomery County is a member of the Capstone Operations team supporting facility-based capstone experiences across the region, ensuring constituents are supported, prepared and motivated to bring financial literacy to Middle and High School students in our area on a daily basis. The Manager, Finance Park Montgomery County reports to the Director, Program Operations and supports the regional and national sharing of best practices, the fidelity of program operations, and an even experience across the region for all constituents. This position manages a team of full- and part-time associates that executes the daily operations of JA Finance Park budgeting simulation. Collaboration across JA teams for stewardship and operational consistency is key

 Organizational Requirements

Supervisory Responsibilities

1 Full-Time Associate and 2 Part-Time Associates

Essential Duties/Responsibilities 

Manages the JA Finance Park® facility and simulation

  • Provide exceptional management of the operations of the Finance Park facility, to include supervising and training of Finance Park Associates and stewarding of constituents who come on-site. Constituents include but are not limited to corporate, community and family volunteers, school staff and students.
  •  In collaboration with JA Finance Park regional team, build and implement strategies to ensure an even end-user experience in all JA Finance Park facilities.
  • Liaise with volunteer and educator management teams to ensure an even and supported onsite experience for their stakeholders and with the operations team on all operational items.
  • Manage staff routines to produce daily internal and external reporting. Ensure timely and accurate data entry.
  • Serve as simulation software lead, conducting improvements and updates, ensuring daily readiness and interfacing with JA’s national arm, JA USA. Assure program quality through daily engagement in the simulation. Continually provide feedback to help maintain program fidelity.
  • Serve as the on-site security and transportation lead at all times.
  • Provide in-person support to all constituents onsite including executing components of the organization’s comprehensive communication plan.
  • Create and manage staffing calendar and work plans and conduct weekly briefings with Associates.
  • Ensure effective delivery of all daily trainings and briefings
  • Cross-train in all facility roles and maintain connectedness to daily simulation by taking on peer roles within the facility on a scheduled basis, including serving as a volunteer and conducting teacher training.

Professional Skills/Abilities

Required

  • 3+ years’ experience working with secondary school-aged students
  • 3+ years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and customer-service mindset
  • Ability to be flexible with hours.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Incumbents must be able to pass a federal background check and be able to work in the presence of children prior to the first day of employment

Preferred

  • Experience in Guest Services industry
  • Experience with a CRM database

Education and Experience

Required  

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 25 pounds
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to talk and hear
  • Ability to squat occasionally
  • Ability to continually stand or walk
  • Ability to sit for a prolonged period of time to complete data entry

Work Environment

Working with the students visiting the Finance Park means higher noise levels while the students work to complete the simulation. This facility is located on a school campus and is not JA’s main office.

  • 401(K) plan in which JAGW contributes 3% of an employee’s pay after employee has worked at least two months.
  • JAGW will contribute 3% into a personal traditional IRA until an employee is eligible for the 401(K) plan.
  • Paid Parental Leave offered to full-time employees who have been with JAGW for at least a year.
  • Employees may be granted up to 16 hours of paid volunteer activity leave per calendar year.
